USA TODAY

quote:

"I would not vote USC No. 1, I can tell you that," he told reporters.
But he did.

In his first-ever ballot as a voter in the poll, Kiffin voted his Trojans as the preseason No. 1 team in the nation.

quote:

Each coach's vote normally is kept confidential until the final vote of the regular season under an agreement between USA TODAY Sports and the American Football Coaches Association. However, when a voter volunteers false or misleading information about his vote in public, then USA TODAY Sports, in its oversight role as administrator of the poll, will set the record straight to protect the poll's integrity.

No, just saying this is no surprise coming from Kiffin.

The question was in response to Rich Rod voting USC #1.

"By saying what he did, Kiffin said he meant that he wouldn't vote USC No. 1 if he were in the media or coaching another team. Because of NCAA-imposed scholarship restrictions, USC is operating with 75 scholarship players, 10 less than the regular maximum of 85.

"We have less players than everybody else," Kiffin said. "So looking at it from the outside, I wouldn't (vote USC No. 1). Did I? Yeah, I did. That's not based off of 75 vs. 85. That's based off of (USC players) Matt Barkley, T.J. McDonald and Robert Woods and Marqise Lee. When everybody has the same record, I can't go into a meeting with our players and have them say, 'You put that team and that team ahead of us.' That's why I did that."

BS. He was asked who he voted #1. Said he can't discuss. He was then told "[inaudible name] said he voted SC #1." Then, LFK responded with a smirk "I would not vote SC #1, I can tell you that", meaning as another coach. Suck it folks- here's the video clip

Second video on the page

So will he continue to vote them #1 no matter what so as to keep his players' confidence up?

Another reason why coaches shouldn't vote

Uh, if they're deserving and still in the title hunt with other teams at the top.

What coach doesn't? When only one vote here or there makes the difference? You saw how close the difference was between LSU, Bama and USC. If all remain unbeaten (until Bama/LSU) it will be dog eat dog.

That's a horse shite explanation and apparently USA Today thinks so too seeing as how they choose to out his vote.

Uh okay. Like the media never does those things for readership or ratings. Listen to the tape. He did not say he didn't vote then #1. He said he would not, in response to being told the coach of another team did.

Except for the fact that this vote would have been secret had Kiffen not made his remarks.

None of his players would have had to tell him anything about ranking other schools ahead of USC if he hadnt been so talkative about his vote.

It's not an explanation...calling it an explanation is horseshite.

It's called context.

Yup and I doubt the coaches poll person even listened. They just heard about what he said. "I would not vote USC #1"

As I thought.

Grant Teaff, executive director of the AFCA, confirmed he sent Kiffin a letter about the matter after being told about it by USA TODAY Sports.

Except that he would and did. In his statement he didn't qualify it as he wouldn't if he was the coach of a different team.

It's called "context" if you're an USC fan. For the rest of the country it's Kiffen being called out by the people who run the coaches poll.
