I would have to go w/ Bryant. Harper would scare me he's a Johnny Manziel, but with talent.

Huh? How is Bryce Harper in any way like Johnny Manziel?

What has Harper done to be compared to Manziel?

Harper is a Mormon who abstains from alcohol, pretty much Manziel's doppelgänger.

Still, I think Manzeil is likely a better dude. He's just a terrible professional--well, not even a professional at all now--who is immature and likes to party. Seems like a genuinely decent guy though, just can't get out of his own way. Harper is a tremendously hard-working professional, but likely a huge a-hole. Very different dudes.

Curious what makes him an a-hole.... Because he got into it with Pap? The dude from everything I've read is a great teammate and stays put of trouble. He also is willing to stay and sign for the kids and he has been known to stop at random little league parks to hang out with kids.

I will be the 1st to say that we don't know these guys--any of them. It's one reason I'd defend Bonds from those so quick to absolve guys like Jeter, Griffey, Biggio. We don't know these people at all except the tiny little snippets we're given by the media.

And I don't care at all about the Pap incident--I have been in dugouts with douches, I know how shite can get heated. But you're not being honest if you can't concede that Harper gives off a much more a-hole(y) vibe than most dudes in sports.

Not to me... The reason people feel this way is because he was on the cover of ESPN at 16 and skipped HS to get into the minors quicker.
The dude only comes off that way for people looking for it. He seems like a genuinely a good dude who just wants to be the best. S

Maybe some people, but not me. I have been amazed at how his being a high school prodigy has actually developed into something actually worthy of the hype. It's been pretty incredible. But I'm not sure I've ever seen him smile. And I'm not insulting him saying he comes off an an a-hole--a lot of the greats that are driven like that are. Bonds, Tiger, Jordan, etc...

I guess I'm just saying he doesn't appear to be someone pleasant to be around more than he's a bad dude. I really don't have such strong feelings about it to continue any further. It's certainly never made me want to watch him any less.

Seems like Bryant will be healthier and more consistent throughout his career while Harper might have a few really really good years, and others he'll be injured.
