How does this guy do it? Iowa has been mediocre under him for almost 20 years, sans 1 or 2 good seasons.

I figured he'd be on the hot seat before Michigan, but then I read he signs a 10 year deal and then gets a 2M bonus for beating fricking Illinois

Ferentz's agent is apparently one of the most brilliant in the game. Has ties to Billichek and other big name coaches.

He's at Iowa.

IOWA.

He's in a conference with OSU Michigan Wisconsin Penn State and now Nebraska. Add in the rise of MSU even though they blow this year.

He's had 5 Top 10 finishes at Iowa.

Surprisingly some schools have realistic expectations

Last year saved his arse, but this season he is on his way to another 7-5 season. He hasn't won a conference title since 2004.

Iowa is apparently fine with this, I figured they would be ready for some new blood on the sidelines.

They've only had 3 coaches since 1974. Not a program that likes turnover I guess.

Ferentz is a cool 9-9 vs. Iowa State.

Fisher would be proud.

Haden Fry took Iowa to 14 bowl games, Kerentz will go to his 14th bowl game this year with Iowa.

Iowa hasn't been to 30 bowl games.

They should have done what Iowa State did and got Campbell after the 2014 season. Pretty soon the Cyclones will be the dominant program in Iowa.

Yes, but Campbell isn't going to be at Iowa State long. Three/four years for now he will be at a bigger school.

its all bc he beat nick saban that one time in 2005 in the bowl game. If you beat nick saban ever you're worth whatever anyone wants to throw at you

And it took a fluke play at the end to beat him.

He doesn't have a lunatic fanbase that thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Iowa fans accept their honest history unlike many fanbases...and adjust their expectations accordingly.

maybe Iowa knows that based on location and a small recruiting base that they will never be a super power and are content with him doing his thing an occasionally have that great team that makes a deep run.

Hayden Fry is considered a God.

He coached for 20 years and won 3 Big 10 titles and went to 3 Rose Bowls winning 1.

In his 16 years of coaching at Iowa, Ferentz has been to 2 Orange and 1 Rose...and a bunch of Outbacks.

Granted Iowa hadn't done much before Fry but Ferentz has done equal what the "legend" did.
