Joe Delaney drowned June 29, 1983, trying to save three young boys from the same fate. One survived. He lives today because Joe D. gave his own life and saved him. Think about that for a moment.

I have a NFL jersey that was game worn by him. Back when they would wear tear away jerseys, I went to the front row and got tossed his jersey. Perfect condition and still have it.

I was always very moved by the story because I was late learning to swim and I remember how terrified I was, before I learned, to be in water over my head.

The survivor became a convicted felon for distribution of cocaine.

But he's out of prison now.
