Other schools are working on spring drills, preparation and UM is touring Europe. Smart move by Harbaugh? I guess it is a free trip, but he can clearly afford to do it anyway.

quote:

A hefty part of this visit will be about football later in the week. Michigan has three practices scheduled to close out the trip.

Can't imagine the level of focus is very high after all of your players have been on vacation and clubbing in Italy all week.

It clearly helped them last year to a title.

As long as boosters are paying the tab, I don't know when this shite stops.

I'm sure the players enjoyed it. Once in a lifetime experience for many of them.

It's fair, for now. I can't fault the guy for doing something not technically against the rules.

Fair, I got to hand it to him, he's great at marketing. I think he's changing the game of recruiting as well.

I had a number of friends who played sports at the D3 level and they each went with their teams either across the country or to Europe at least once. I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more with Div. 1 football

Seems kind of shady, but it would definitely help sway me as a recruit.

Kiffen seems like more of a Cabo guy.

He made Facetime Recruiting calls from the actual Coliseum in Rome, and ESPN has an on air reported embedded with them throughout the trip.

I think that may help his recruiting a bit.

Not sure why anyone would think it's foul. This is great for those kids.

Thought it was a ploy at first, but from what I've seen it seems like it has been a great experience for the team and Harbaugh and his family. Marty Smith, the ESPN guy with the team, said that being with the team he can see that it's more than just the guys hanging out, and the entire team gets to tour one of the most historic places on Earth. The NCAA says all the time that college athletics is all about the experience of being a college athlete. This is a once in a lifetime experience that 90% of these guys would not have had were it not for this trip.

It seemed gimmicky to me at first because it is Harbaugh, but if it were any other coach (besides Saban probably) people would love this.

JC, who cares?

If you have money and a huge alumni, do whatever you want...that's always been the case. Richer schools get richer...why do you think the last 100 years has been the same usual suspects in the Top 20?

Notre Dame played a game in Ireland and got a weeks vacation...nobody complained about it.

You're thinking of Bama, Auburn, and Ole Miss boosters and the sacks of cash they give 'cruits...

Exactly. On its face, it's a great experience for the kids. But the arms race never ends and squeezes out the little guy. Which is fine in capitalism, but I don't think our universities--as for profit as most football programs are--should be such willing participants. Is Bama gonna practice in the Internationla Space Station next year? Oregon building a Nike dome on the moon?

One thing is for certain: it's getting publicity.

ESPN has a news segment on it everyday and has assigned a reporter
