Pretty much every other ESPN show does better numbers than SC6.

Does that mean that pretty much every other ESPN show did better numbers than Sportscenter before the change?

Context matters.

And that 270k figure was more than the 245k the year before, and again, with much much less ESPN cable subscribers.

Do these numbers include Sling TV ESPN subscribers?

what made their chemistry honest and unique on the ESPN2 show His and Hers

This was honestly good television. Those two together on that show brought the best out of each other, and fit well as just one of the ESPN programs.

Putting them together on the network's flagship show was questionable to say the least.

If I had to bet, I would bet that at this time next year the 6 p.m. ET slot is either a standard version of SportsCenter or some sort of PTI-extension. I would also bet that Hill is elsewhere.

I used to like the extra PTI segment at the beginning of SportsCenter.

The takeaway should be that the only SC doing well is Van Pelt's.

Also, the fact that PTI still draws that big of an audience, compared to other ESPN shows, is awesome.

I like PTI. Deal with it.

I know Van Pelt probably gets the best lead in, but he is completely lapping everyone.

A lot of the time his lead in is just another SC but he's the major Monday and Sunday night SC now.

They should have built this thing around SVP and not these 2 clowns. For your flagship program to only be basically limited to only being able to talk the NFL and NBA was just stupid. The political shite aside, there was no reason to tune in because I don’t value the opinions of either of the hosts.

That is a 6.9 percent increase in overall viewership.

I wonder if that 6.9 percent increase was worth the harm that show did to the overall brand of ESPN.

They'll just try to make her a martyr like they are trying to do with Kaep.

If true, ESPN is stupider than I thought, which would be very hard.

So if I’m looking at this right, 300,000 people change the channel when SC6 comes on?

That would be me. Without PTI as a lead in, their numbers would be even worse.

270k people in the key demo watch the show?

Uh, and 215,000 adults 18-49) from Oct. 3-6, 2017.

This is how you know ESPN is trying to shove crap down throats. Why go through all the hell they go through, to attract 215,000 viewers?

Move Van Pelt to 6pm, gain viewers. No hell to pay, less cord cutting, profit!

But Noooooooo. We need to get shite straight in this country. By way of Sports reporting

Half the audience disappears even though the timeslot is their lead in for that night’s sporting event

That would be asinine. 6p is a much worse timeslot. It's like moving the Tonight Show to that time.

Jemele Hill will be okay. She was the Michigan State beat writer for the Detroit Free Press before she went to Orlando and ESPN. She's a brand and she can always find work in Detroit on radio and newspapers in her hometown and still get paid to talk and write about sports and be more important than Buddy Songy or T-Bob.

What am I missing here?

The guy seemed to make it clear that the ratings are seemingly about the same as they were last year at the same time, but posters are insinuating it's so terrible of SC6 to have these ratings.

I don't know how many subscribers ESPN has now compared to last year at the same time. But I do know ESPN lost 200k subscribers in September alone, so we can surmise it's very likely in the millions(7 digits) and they've still maintained similar ratings to last year at the same time.

How many bars/reataraunts leave it on ESPN all day? Take them out of the equation and I'd bet less than 100k watch that sportscenter.

Yup, I think she's been angling for this from jump street. Push the boundaries repeatedly with ESPN, and when they're forced (despite their best efforts, mind you) to do something, she plays the freaking martyr.
