Also, I still don't believe clutch exists

Have you noticed who everyone is saying is the most clutch? It happens to be the same people that are simply the best players.....

Unfortunately, no. He missed one last game.

He is 47-48 from the line.

You think Kobe scoring .8 points more than Lebron makes up for the 10% shooting difference, 2% 3pt difference, 6 rebound difference, 7 assist difference, 2 block difference, 2.5 steal difference?

Pathetic.

Yeah in 8 fewer shots, it has LeBron scoring only 0.8 fewer points with a 10% higher field goal percentage.

Not to mention, 5.9 more rebounds, 6.7 more assists, 1.7 more blocks, and 2.5 more steals. Kobe does have a better turnover average (3.0 v. 4.8); however, his assist to turnover of 1.9 was well below LeBron's 2.63.

Altogether, if an assist is worth say 2.2 points, LeBron would account for 87.4 points compared to Kobe's 69.2--a difference of more than 18 points.

I really hope smash didn't post that thinking it was favorable to Kobe because it so clearly not.

When Lebron was bricking shots in the clutch his fanboys on here spent thread after thread claiming that "clutch" didn't exist and was a made up thing for TV ratings.

To me the biggest problem of the past is that a superior "clutch" factor was ascribed to Kobe Bryant when he didn't really deserve it more than Lebron based on the number of "clutch" moments each guy had.

To this day that line of thinking persists. There's this legend of Kobe that is just not supported by facts.

I'm not comparing him to Lebron.

Those analytics breakdown clutch with 5 minutes left in tight ball games. The original link was posted by someone saying Kobe is the least clutch guy and is a bad comparison for what Kawhi's offensive game and demeanor has become.

Compared to other superstars, Kobe is not clutch. He misses at a higher rate, which your link actually proves......

He's clearly not the least clutch guy, but those statistics don't really show that he's anything special.

I mean that was his third most efficient shooting season, yet of the top 20 point scorers on that list, he is only 14th in FG% and 15th in points per shot. He also shot lower from the field than his season average (his 3% was higher though). His assist, rebound, steal, and block totals were lower than his season average given the same amount of time.

So he's not the "least" clutch by any means, but he's also not anywhere near the "most" clutch either. Just like his overall career, his cluthness is largely overrated since people often rank him at the top when he should be high, but at the top by any means.

Incidentally, from those 2008-2009 clutch statistics linked above, of the 50 top point scorers, Johnson's shooting percentage was 47th, almost 11% lower than the top 50's average, and 7.2% lower than his own season average.

So we may not be able to determine whether clutch exists from that data, but if anybody is anti-clutch, it's Joe Johnson--at least for that season.
