If you truly look at the numbers and their actual track record you cannot go wrong with saying that a SF Giant team without Posey would not have won 3 championships and would be in a much worse position than a LA Angels of Anaheim team without Trout or a Washington National team without Bryce Harper or without a Trea Turner or even a LA Dodger team without Kershaw or Seager

I just do not understand why MLB network or ESPN does not give him his due credit

After this year I may feel different if Trea Turner or Corey Seager really blows up

I'm sure the Angels would be instant contenders if they traded Trout for Posey and the Giants would be in big trouble.

They do have two other center fielders but zero catchers who are above replacement

MLB does the worst job promoting the game. They believe the game will promote itself and never push star players.

I know it wasn't like Griffey Jr and Jeter were not the faces of baseball for close to 20 years

MLB did little to promote either... Same with Harper today. Jeter being in NY and dating celebrities really helped him.
Griffey had Nike backing him

Believe what you want

Certain players are celebrated while others are pushed aside

Bryce Harper hasn't been overhyped?

This is what you are saying

Anyway look at the amount of catchers above replacement compared to center fielders

CF's Defensive Metrics are overrated compared to catchers which are underrated

Truthfully Catcher is the most valuable defensive position and it is not even close

Bryce Harper has been pushed by Sports Illustrated that put him on the cover. What exactly does MLB do for him?
Dude should be in the Sunday night game along with players like Trout, Kershaw, Harvey, Stanton, etc and promoted.
MLB should be encouraging them to do more and participate in activities such as WBC

What would they have to do if Mike Trout having the best start to a career ever and lapping the field over the past few years isn't enough for you to think he is the most valuable player?

I do think Posey is great and probably under appreciated at this point though. And this is easily your best thread of the day.

And the idea that posey means more to the Giants than a player like trout means to the angels just isn't even close to the truth

Maybe not. But I think there is something to be said about the way he handles the pitching staff. He's not the greatest def catcher in the league but he has improved.

I'll admit I am biased

He actually was the best pitch framer in the league last year. If he's not the best def catcher, he's close.

But Mike Trout is the best player in baseball.

I don't care about the Giants one way or the other but they do seem to be the team with 3 championships in 5 years that got a lot less national press than anybody similar.

That probably has to do with the horrid years in between and them being on the West Coast. It doesn't seem like MLB promotes the West Coast teams as well as the other sports. Golden State gets as much pub as anybody but the Giants or Dodgers seem like an afterthought until the playoffs
