Is Andrew Luck overstated as a QB?

He gets mentioned frequently as a top level QB, and just a minute ago Schefter was on Sportscenter saying the Colts GM job was highly desirable because of Andrew Luck.

He's been in the league for a while now and while he is undoubtedly solid, I'm not seeing the franchise-altering player that many others do. What am I missing here?

I think you could've made this argument last year. He didn't play well. Not anymore. If you watch them play, he's a great QB but their line is abysmal. There's only so much he can do

They should get rid of him, QBs grow on trees now so finding a replacement shouldn't be a problem.

Step back and look at that offense.

I know he was injured last year and missed a lot of the year, so I'm not even figuring it in. I just look at his career as a whole and I don't see much there that makes me think he's an elite QB moving forward. Solid, sure. A guy that gets GMs lining up to take the Indy job? I have trouble seeing it.

There is some legitimate concern that his OL has been pretty shitty as a unit and he gets minimal help in the run game, so his numbers in spite of that are pretty damn solid.

That being said, he's coming up on his 6th year in the league and already has a huge contract, so the whole shine of being the best young QB in the game is wearing off quickly.

I'm honestly not sure if he is overrated or not. He has by far the worst surrounding cast around him.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting he sucks or that Indy could do better right now. Where would you rank him among the following young QBs? I think all of these guys are his age or younger.

Luck
Wilson
Newton
Carr
Winston
Maroita

Saw this quote yesterday "the Colts organization is the Browns with Andrew Luck at QB"

Owner is drug addict, the GM (fired yesterday) was hated by the team, the head coach (who they have tried to replace each of the past two seasons) hasn't spoken to the GM in 18 months.

Luck is very skilled qb but has a tendency to get hit very hard frequently. I have not seen alot of Colts games but when I do watch one a DL will usually completely unload on him at least once. I dont know who is responsible but he has taken a tremendous amount of hits.

I think only Carr might turn out better. I would say Cam as well, but I worry about his health. I think Luck can win you a lot of games, but he needs help. All those hits over the years have taken a toll on the guy. I worry about him becoming another David Carr.

27yo intelligent QB with the potential to be great, under a long-term K.

Not having to worry about the QB position is huge.

Behind Wilson for sure. Definitely ahead of Carr, Winston, and Mariotta.

So 2nd or 3rd.

Overstated? You saying people are saying he's a QB too much?

I tend to agree, but only from a pure ranking standpoint. Winston is 5 years younger than Luck. Mariota is 4 years younger, as is Prescott.

Hell, if Luck and Wilson are in the same age tier, then you have to include someone like Kirk Cousins, Tannehill, and even Stafford.

He's not an elite QB, but he's made some strides. When Brady and Brees retire, will he be good enough to jump into the top 3? I dunno.

His oline, while bad, still hadn't been Seahawks level bad.

His career thus far has been underwhelming...I mean he's good, but with all the hype that surrounded him..I just don't think he's been close to the benchmark that's been set by the media and more importantly the MSB
