Any update on the Pac 12 network/Directv situation?

His scorched-earth negotiating policy alienated DirecTV, the nation's largest satellite provider. (Shockingly, companies don't enjoy doing business with entities that encourage that company's customers to leave in favor of direct competitors.) The Pac-12 Network still doesn't have a deal with DirecTV even though AT&T—a company the network does have a carriage deal with—has purchased DirecTV.

sounds like DTV will continue to say no so long as Larry Scott is p12 commish.

Interesting that Cal-Hawaii is on Aug 26, a week before everyone else starts up.

The Pac 12 is smart by taking advantage of the Friday night time slots with some big games. I love hanging out at a bar in Austin or at a road game with the opponent's fans, drinking and shooting the shite while casually watching the Friday night games.

the cal vs hawaii game is in Australia, that's why it's a week early

Agreed. For years, ESPN mostly put dud games on Friday nights. I like seeing better games now.
How did Arizona St. get suckered into playing at UTSA?

And I love driving through Los Angeles to make a 6pm kickoff on a Friday.
frick Larry, Moe, and Curly Scott, frick the Pac12 for allowing this shite, and frick Pat Haden for agreeing to it.
Two weekday games again. And our home opener is at 11am. frick it, frick everything.

Use to be worse, during Carroll's years.
USC was playing at 7pm to be on TV as the only game in the nation. They played Arkie at 7pm PCT.
They had 4 games that started at 7pm PCT one year. Most Pac games (unlike the SEC which played at night for it's history) always started at 12:30pm...always. Very rarely would even get a 3:30pm PCT game up until the 90's. Everyone played at 12:30pm in the Pac and ABC would choose one game to broadcast, the Pac-12 game of the week.
The Pac said they were going to reduce the number of crazy late night weird day games just to stand out from the crowd.
Pac should just forget trying to chase #'s and ratings...and just play as the stadiums were built, on grass, outdoors, under the West Coast sun.
Night games in the Pac-12 don't make any sense. That's for the SEC and maybe Conference USA.

I remember; I went to every one of those games. I'll take a 7pm Saturday game over any weekday game. That Arky game was freaking awesome.
At least this year I can take the metro line from Santa Monica. That'll be pretty sweet.
I agree that we should stop chasing #s. Especially SC. We play, people will watch. Weekday games are for BYU and Ucla.

Arizona actually did a home-and-home with UTSA.

The problem with the PAC 12 Networks (plural) is just that, the "s" on the end. Signing on to carry the channel means you have to sign on to carry the Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado affiliates.
That's 6 networks for the price of 6.
The second problem is the fact that viewers on the East Coast and in the Central Time Zones are typically not casual fans of the PAC 12...at least not enough to tune in to 10/9 pm kickoffs on a Saturday night. It's a whole lot different when the game kicks off here at 7 pm.

actually, its 7.
you have the 6 regional affiliates and the main channel.
if the regional ones actually had significantly different content it would make a little more sense but quite often they are showing the exact same thing.
They should have gone with a Pac12Net w/a single Pac12Net alt channel and they'd probably be on DTV now.

Huh. Did not know the Pac 12 Network was set up that way. What a mess.
Posted on 6/2/16 at 9:54 pm to CRDNLSCHMCPSN11
Yeah Pac 12 Network is a total mess and has been mishandled by their executives. They seem to be like the chihuahua who thinks he's a Rottweiler. They have a very apathetic fanbase both locally and nationally. The thing they don't understand is that Directv doesn't need them, they simply don't have the passion of SEC or BiG 10 fans that cherish their networks and would raise holy hell if they weren't offered.
They were discussing this very subject today on XM radio college sports channel and said almost verbatim the former.
