What would his response be?

1)players are soft today
2)they have more medicine and do load management but they cant last a full season
3)make alot more money

There are a few exceptions to this. MJ could play today, BO could def play today. A lot
Of QBs from then could excel in todays game.

Just because u bigger faster stronger and only play in 1/2 games makes u better than someone who is willing to play a full season, no load management, worse medicine and theraphy but has a bigger drive, a want? Nowadays u got kids sitting out for bowl games and NCAA march madness tournaments bc they dont want to get hurt

I think this is overstated. Most above average players could be back end roster types (assuming their game translates) and would quickly progress with the updated training regimes. They were athletic freaks in their day, so it stands to reason they'd be at least average athletic with a year of training or so today.

Lets say a good player today gets moved back to the 80s/90s….could todays player handle the way the game was played back then?…could they handle a rougher style of coaching?…could they handle having to play most of the season? I dont think so

They would have zero chance if they were teleported as an adult

They would be so far behind in schemes and concepts and film studies.

GTFOOH with that shite.

There is no way in hell anyone could convince me that Bo Jackson in his prime couldn't make a current roster in MLB or the NFL.

Do you really believe what you posted?

The studs would absolutely play. The average middle of the pack guys wouldn’t stand a chance

Well that wasn't really the question, its if they got teleported and immediately started playing.

The answer depends on the position and sport though.

I think baseball players would be fine. The average player is a better athlete now, but you don't have to be a great athlete to be a good baseball player.

For the NBA the stars back then were athletic anyway, so I don't think you'd see a huge shift.

I'd love for someone to try to say Dan Marino wouldn't set the world on fire in today's offenses... but some of the LBs from back then would be getting absolutely cooked because you have to cover a lot more now as a LB.

Dont' forget the amnesia that sometimes follows teleportation sickness.

You know, as long yall are going to keep having this ridiculous discussion over and over again, might as well include some lessons from SciFi.

In football and basketball he would probably be surprised at how much more complex game plans are.

Plus with the NBA leaning so heavily on analytics his mindset would totally have to change to match what we now know about probabilities and what makes offenses efficient.

Guys from the 80s and 90s weren’t babies. The newer generation would get pushed around by the older generation and cry like babies and miss more games. The older generation has a job to do and show up every game. Ask cal ripken

This

Guys might be good athletes and could compete, but the game evolved away from what they did… for example back to the basket big men or middle relievers topping out at 95 or run stuffing DL and linebackers who can’t play against modern offenses

100%

Remember, too, especially in baseball pitch velocity is tracked out of the hand now instead of at the plate. This adds mph.

Guarantee you Bo, Ron Gant, Will Clark, et al could still mash in today's game.

If they were teleported in, there would be issues with most players competing immediately due to new schemes, rules, etc, plus modern health and training regimens.

Many would be able to adapt over time.

Most of these types of discussions believe the old players couldn’t compete today, even if they grew up in the modern era. This is mostly bullshite.

This is the biggest disparity between athletes from today and athletes from the distant past.

Sure players today are a little bigger and faster and coaching, sports medicine and nutrition have improved. But the leap in money is crazy.

I think Mickey Mantle was the first athlete to make $100k and that was in the 60s. A lot of pro athletes had to work offseason jobs.

This is such a weak argument. If you could teleport a player from era to the other, that player would have to exist within the confines of what is available in that period as far as training nutrition and medical resources..

John Crotty would win multiple MVPs playing in today's game.
