We as a society love to build people up and then tear them down. If Speith wins a 3rd straight major, without Rory, the world #1 in field, will anyone in the press try and diminish his accomplishment?

Of course, sensationalism sells

He beat Rory in the first two, chances are he would beat him in the Open as well.

If anything they should go after Rory for injuring himself. It's not Spieth's fault that Rory hasn't grown up yet.

I agree, but technically Rory would have the "home field advantage" at St. Andrews....just like Speith had "home field" in the Masters and U.S. Open.

Winning consistently overtakes home field advantage any day.

I like how you put home field in quotations... It's like you knew how ridiculous it would sound before you even said it.

Not after The Open Championship. That would still be in the building process. Eventually, they will tear him down though.

The fact that Rory wasn't there will be a topic of discussion. Likely immediately after the win.

Not yet. He's still too young and likeable.

The public will get there, though.

you are a professional golfer that gets paid millions to play golf and you find a way to get injured, in a soccer game nonetheless, and not defend your title at the Open. That's something the all-time greats would never let happen

but there's really no sense in comparing Rory to the all-time greats, he'll never get there anyways

Spieth's game is legit...could be watching the next Tiger-like ascent in golf.

It's not like it's a diminished field. Probably the strongest of the year despite no Rory

Are y'all crazy??? Golf and TV need Spieth. He is a ratings hog, maybe not like Tiger in his prime, but Spieth has been good for golf's image and tv ratings.

I never said he wasn't....BTW I'm a huge Speith fan.....I was only asking the question will anyone in the media try to diminish his accomplishment considering Rory was not in the field?

Absolutely not. They will be eating it up. He would be going for the slam and the press will love it. Rory or no Rory.

Yes we do. I have no doubt if Young Spieth keeps dominating we will find flaws and shred him for it sometime soon

You're going to hear a lot more about him winning 3 in a row if it happens.
