Clippers are doing about what they should be doing with that talent crop.

This is just one of those cases where a team has players that appear to be on the level as the elite tier that includes Lebron, KD, Kawhi and Steph.

Chris Paul is almost in that class, but he isn't.

Blake Griffin is almost in that class, but he isn't.

If either one of them were a little better, they'd be a championship team. If they were able to add another player of their same caliber (like a Paul George), they'd be a championship team.

The problem is the salary cap. When players have max salaries, that means that the best guy gets paid just as much as the 10th best guy. The 10th best guy needs more help than the best guy, but he counts just as much against the cap. And that's the problem, the one thing that was put in place to create parity actually does the opposite, it creates a ceiling that a team like the Clippers cannot crack.

This is a long winded way to say, people's expectations for the Clippers were out of whack. They have two players who are a tick under elite status. That's enough to keep them ringless in this NBA where teams advance in a best-of-7 format.
