no. by most accts, he was their 2nd or 3rd choice. there was some talk of them trading for Jordan Hill before the deadline, and they also went after Big Baby after he was bought out. Collins has history with Kidd (they were Nets teammates), KG and Pierce, and Joe Johnson. once their other options fell thru, it wasn't far-fetched that they'd go after him.

Yes, it is the worst stories in sports right now. If they want to be treated like normal athletes, they need to start acting like it and avoid the BS media. Until then, they are gay playing sports and some people will think it is important.

Michael Sam is obviously trying this, but there was more media at his combine press conference than Johnny Manziel's. He might not want to be an activist, but the media is going to make him one. The best possibility for him would be getting drafted to the Patriots. The way they handled having Tebow in camp was remarkable.
Jason Collins lost the possibility of being "just a regular basketball player" when he decided to hangout with the Obama's.
