There is a rumor that there was some hanky panky among the coaching staff and their wives that further split the two groups.

I read that rumor on here several years ago.

Rod would have done well IMO if they had a little more patience.

Maybe, maybe not.

Problem is that patience is in short supply when you're at a historic program and you go sub-.500 for the first time in about 40 years.

Especially when you start bleeding players and commits left and right because the style you want to run doesn't suit them.

I don't think most of the people who ditched ended up having success elsewhere, but Ryan Mallett did pretty good until his substance abuse issues bubbled up.

Justin Boren started a few years at OSU. Mike Molk ended up being better than him though.

I agree, but if Michigan did not realize that realize the rebuilding job that Rich had to do that's on them.

I don't like Rich as a Mountaineer fan, but the man can coach, and he is 10x better than what they have now.

Agree it was going to be tough for RR to transform Mich from what they were (a depleted roster B1G run team) to his style of spread. I think he would have adjusted much quicker had he been the choice at Bama.

Weird to think what Bama may be today had RR got the job in 06 instead of Saban

He adjusted the offense pretty quickly. They were good enough by his second year. He got fired because his defense was historically bad.

That's part of the problem. They were in denial of what the program was becoming under Carr.

From what I remember, the offensive and defensive coaches were on totally different pages and Carr wasn't really involved in the decision-making anymore. In addition to that, Carr's health was declining.

Instead of addressing any of this, they called out anyone who told recruits about this as "dirty recruiting."

I look at it as this - If someone said that Carr wasn't going to last at Michigan during a player's 3+ years as an NCAA player and, lo and behold, Carr retires before the player's sophomore season, it ain't "dirty recruiting".

What Trey said, man. His defenses weren't just bad, they were historically awful.

Michigan's defense has only given up 300+ points in their program's history THREE times. Guess who was the head coach all three seasons?

They went 11-2 and 9-4 (and beat Saint Tebow) in Carr's last two seasons

LSU vs Bama couldve been a battle of wits between Rich Rod and Houston Nutt

The 9-4 season was an embarassment.

They came into season expecting to play for the national title and got beaten by App State on their home field to start the season and then got arse-raped in the Big House by Oregon on national TV.

They still got at least two big wins by beating then-#10 Penn State during the season and #9 Florida in the Citrus Bowl, but the first two weeks of the season were a massive loss of face considering what was expected of them.

There wernt any problems with the coordinators and his health was fine.

He just phoned in the recruiting towards the end.

I'm willing to bet that Michigan fans would gladly trade Hoke's last two seasons, as well as the Rich Rod years, for some more 9-4 "embarrassment" seasons.

I hope Cam Cameron stays at LSU forever, but....
I can't imagine Michigan hiring a coach who was 18-37 at Indiana 15 years ago.

There's no excuse to not go at least 8-4 with that schedule.

Read an article saying UM booster Eldridge Harris, Jr. (wanted Miles in 2011) is again heading a group to get Miles. Going to put up a ton of money. Who knows how valid that report is.
