With the injury to RGIII last night, how long before there is a no contact rule for QB's in the preseason?

He would probably still find a way to get touched with that O-Line.

Never. What about the wildcat formation? No contact on the qb then?

I think maybe the Redskins could initiate a little more contact on opposing defenses before we start putting bubble wrap on QB's.

You'd have different color jerseys for the player you want protected

I'm of the belief that RG3's line really isn't trying to protect him. I don't think they're intentionally whiffing on blocks but I don't think they're going all out either.

Hopefully never. I'm sure RG3 would be injured in game 1 anyway, so at least they have a few weeks to get the next guy ready.
FTR, it is football, they hit each other. If you can't take it in a preseason game, I doubt you can make it 16 games.

Well I am not talking specifically about RGIII, I just used him as an example.

The perfect time to put a rule like that in would have been after Vick went down for the year in 2003. I don't think it will ever happen.

If it happens it won't be because Robert Griffen gets hurt

Problem is one of the biggest things teams do during preseason is evaluate their reserve QBs. How can you possibly do that with QBs who know they aren't going to get hit? QBs can turn into totally different players once contact becomes a factor. Only way to tell that is putting them a live contact situation.

I could see a scenario where the NFL institutes a 1-player no-contact jersey where a team has the option to designate one QB with "green jersey" status to protect stars

If he didn't suck so bad he wouldn't have been injured.

For the NFL to preach safety and protect its stars through increased penaltys and at the same time have 5 weeks of live action meaningless games is a glaring hypocrisy.

The coaches could set their roster in a weeks worth of practice if they wanted to.
