Am I missing something I thought running backs were only allowed numbers 20-49. Did the rule change or does it not matter in pre-season?

Just like the lsu game, nobody's gonna stop Derrick Henry from doing what he wants.

I seem to remember NFL letting Reggie Bush wear #5 in preseason but forced him to change when real season started. I would guess Henry will have to do the same.

He can't wear 2 in the regular season. It will be a number in the 20s.

It's due to the current roster situations for NFL teams. More people on the roster means the NFL is pretty lenient on who is issued certain numbers

Bingo, a few skill guys have worn single digits during preseason and gone back to their required number range week 1.

Reggie wore #5 in practices with the Saints but I don't think he ever wore it even in a preseason game

I don't know about RBs but OL have to wear certain numbers so the officials can quickly tell who's illegally downfield on a pass play

Like others have said he'll have to change it for the regular season.

When he was drafted he probably didn't like any of the available numbers so he's waiting for more roster cuts to get a good #

It's the same reason why you see WRs with single digit numbers. At this point, there's about 90 or so players on the roster so the NFL gives leeway to their number rule. Once the roster cuts occur he will have to change his number

A player not being able to wear the number he wants... is the worst rule in football?

What a joke.
