Did yall notice that Sean Payton ranked in the bottom half of "most respected coaches" poll (voted on exclusively by NFLPA) that was posted yesterday?

I found that surprising / interesting. Obviously on this board, Dennis Allen coming in last got most of the attention, but I thought Payton (and John Harbaugh) ranking so low was the biggest surprise to me.

My initial thought is most of the negative voting had to do with how the handling of Russell Wilson went down; there was a lot of chatter about Wilson and Payton not getting along midway through the season, hell even before the season even started. I don't really remember a time with the Saints organization where he wasn't respected. So it is a bit odd

Disinterested ownership can often be worse than overly meddlesome ownership (e.g. Jerruh).

The Waltons seem to either not care, or his days are already numbered and he’s set up to be the fall guy is Payton isn’t successful in the next 2 seasons.

I don't. Payton is a jackass and not a lot of opposing players like him. He talks the most shite out of any coach in the league and I dont think it's close. Well, Mike McDaniel is giving him a run for his money but he's young and his brand of trash talk seems to be more boastful about his team rather than trashing the opponent.

When he's your coach and it's going well, you like him and the pettiness that he comes with, but the rest of the league doesn't. Plenty of opposing players have aired grievances against him, and the players voted for this so pretty expected honestly.

Rob is the only Walton in the ownership group. Cutting a high salary qb after one year of ownership doesn't seem 'not involved'.

I think they realized they need to suck and get draft capital asap

He did have a fake retirement and then ripped the previous coaching in front of him in Denver in a way that you just don't see done much if at all.

He's got to be kicking himself in way. He went from the most winnable division in the league to one of the tougher ones with Andy Reid and Jim Harbaugh now joining that division.
