How bad was Luke Kuechly's concussion last night?

It looked like two shots to the head on that one play, one from the Saints player in front of him and another from a Panthers player from behind.

I know he has suffered multiple concussions, so I'm starting to wonder about long term effects.

It certainly didn't look good; I read something earlier this morning that was unrelated to Kuechly specifically, but being unable to control emotional outbursts, such as crying like he was, is a symptom of a serious neurological condition.

I hope he's going to be okay. Not only is he a great player, but he does a lot of great things in our community and the Panthers couldn't dream of having a better ambassador.

That is the main thing that kind of freaked me out. Maybe he needs to step away from football if he has gotten to this point.

That was hard to watch. As much as I hate the Camthers. Luke is a good dude

Well I guess I have a serious neurological condition then. I probably had 8-9 concussions from high school-college football and after 2-3 at least I balled crying uncontrollably.

I was told multiple times from doctors that concussions themselves can cause manic episodes of crying. It also can go the other way where it causes uncontrollable laughter.

They need to keep him out the rest of the season, especially with his history of concussions. I don't care if he wants to come back and that Panthers fans will want him back because they're still in the playoff race, you got to look at the bigger picture.

I've seen a lot of concussions and I haven't seen a face quite like that. He looked like he was in another dimension

After reading that this morning, I ultimately became really concerned for Luke. The outpouring of support from players across the league is also concerning..they're all a pretty tight group, but they rarely come together unless it's a really bad injury.

That was pretty crazy. Think he's gonna be done for a little bit after that one, which is ashame because he's such a great player.

That's the thing though, no true competitor will ever sit out if he doesn't have to. It leaves a sense of guilt that you're letting your teammates down.

It's easy to look from the outside and see what the clear decision should be, but from the standpoint of the player it isn't that simple at all.

Maybe his show of emotion was due to the fact he made the decision to retire if he ever suffered another concussion? Just speculating. Wouldn't be surprised.

I have nothing to support this notion, but his reaction told me that he knew his career was coming to an end or close to its end with that concussion.

Crying uncontrollably really isn't that rare after a really bad concussion.

People may be reading too much into it.

He certainly reacted to it very strangely.

It wasn't simply getting knocked out, coming to, and not remembering what happened.

Instead he became extremely emotional...crying and hyperventilating. Obviously, there was confusion.

I feel bad for the guy. He needs to sit down for a little while.

there is also the chance that he realized he was concussed and his season is over, right as the panthers were starting to move forward and he wasn't going to be able to participate/contribute to their push. nobody questioned his crying when we thought it was a knee injury and it could just be the same response he'd have to any major injury

he's one of the few guys in the NFL that could cry after a serious injury and nobody joked and everyone felt bad b/c he is such a competitor and cares that much.

He's a little "off" when he's not concussed. He was probably just scared.

let me also say that if he retires, combined with pat willis retiring, that would SUCK

we're talking about 2 HISTORICALLY great MLBs potentially retiring in their respective primes

MLB is probably the most violent position on the field. Your body takes a lot of damage. I don't blame the guys for getting 20 mill and calling it a day.

This is true. Its more likely when the person has had multiple concussions
