What is your opinion on this rule? I think it is complete bullshite. It is supposedly for player safety but in almost 40 years of watching football I can't remember ever seeing a player injured while being tackled this way.

That you Roy Williams? Go tell that to an Eagles fan.

They only made the rule after Terrell Owens got hurt with Philly.

TO is the only player i can think of ever substantially injured by it in the NFL

I can imagine college probably had a few injuries just due to the sheer volume of games played

Well maybe be bullshite or not but, I've always chuckeld about the pentality.

Defense makes a horse collar tackle on a hall of fame RB or T. Brady, they blow their knee out or break their leg. 15 yards and keep playing....

The 49ers advanced to the 81 Super Bowl based on a horse collar tackle by Eric Wright in The Catch game before the penalty was instituted

The biggest bullshite rule is that if a defender is on the ground he can't dive at the QB's legs to tackle him...the Brady rule.

What kind of bullshite is that? You used to be able to tackle a QB by his helmet or clotheslining him, head slapping him...

Now the QB has like a strike zone...a defined and limited space where you can touch him...above the knees but below the chest.

I remember when the Niners hit Brees in the chest and he fumbled and that was a penalty.

You can only sack the QB in the most perfect form tackle ever seen and it has to be around the midsection.

That's not football.

Back then it was a players' game, thanks Dr. Omalu and Roger Goodell for dismantling that concept

The biggest bs rule is if you touch the qbs head and not even tackle him. It's 15 yards and an automatic first down. Horse collar is a fantastic rule. It's a very dangerous way to tackle someone.

College rule change this year has added that grabbing the back of the jersey in the nameplate area is also a horse collar tackle if the ball carrier is immediately pulled down as a result.

Roy Williams was a little bitch like that. Slow as shite in the open field so he had to do something.

It is a bad rule, but IMO the only thing that makes it terrible is that it is one of the easiest calls to make (was he on the ground, did he dive at the knee) and the refs still do not call it consistently.

IMO the 2 worst calls are the way they have changed the defensive receivers definition essentially eliminating big hitting safety's from the game. I understand not wanting players to launch at other players, or making a huge hit after it's obvious the ball won't be caught. When a WR is stretched out to catch a pass and the defender makes a big play to separate the WR from the ball Rafael Bush on Percy Harvin comes to mind), it should be a legal call.

The other is the Hines Ward rule. Depending on what angle a player is coming from, he cannot block a potential tackler even if he uses proper form and gets his head & shoulders across the potential tackler's face.

Leaving your WRs to dry like that should be an offensive penalty if anything
