I think it is a case of trading two unhappy players. The Wizards are starting Dee Brown who should be in the NBDL. Wiz need guard help, and the third team in the deal eliminates the need for salaries to match up. James has a player option for next season which everyone expects him to exercise, because he sucks.

The Hornets will get Antonio Daniels from the Wizards and possibly a conditional draft pick from Memphis.

The Hawnits may get a pick also.

Still have some cap room to sign a big man in Feb.
Not really. The Hornets jump up $9 M in payroll for Paul's new deal. And that includes 4 expiring contracts. Unless the Hornets make more deals that shake up the roster (which they won't and shouldn't) the only moves they can make in FA is to get someone for the MLE. So there is no "cap room" to speak of.

Ok, but can comeone please try and explain why the Wiz would make this trade 1-1 if Daniels is an upgrade for us at the position?

Because the Wiz get Crittenton out of the deal. He's only 20 or so and has a lot of talent.

yeah, the cap room i was referring to is maybe signing a rent-a-player for the stretch run(like PJ Brown and Cassell for the C's last year). They definitely cannot take on long term salary

Wow, this only costs us an extra 350K or so over the next two years. Daniels' contract is done after next season, as was James', and this was basically a throw in so that the Wiz could get Crittenton. Great move by Bower. If we get a conditional pick from the Griz, that would make it even better.

Both contracts expire at the same time and the Hornets get a pick out of the deal.

AD has lost a step on both ends of the floor, but he will put distributing the ball ahead of shooting, something James could not do, plus he is a team guy and a leader. James was all about James. This doesn't give our second team some giant boost, but they should be more efficient. Devin can play the 2 and Posey (and eventually Wright???) can swap in the 3-4. Maybe this unit will give up 5 points of a lead instead of 10-12.

I am clrealy grasping for straws here...

Either way, Daniels is better than James. And maybe we get a pick???

he's like 10 times the player james' is

similar contacts that end the same time (keeping flexibility in trades for a $10M man next year)

great deal, even without a pick

yall are crazy if yall think this is a bad deal. antonio daniels is a great backup point guard

the hornets finally did something for their team that was actually a NECESSITY. mike james fricking sucks, he never really played. this is a great move for the hornets, and even better if they get a conditional pick

just need to get a backup big and they are set, thought i dont see this happening
