Doesn't matter if the coach is an arse or not. He put himself before the team. I am sure there were other kids that were out there playing to win.

I only ever played football and I never really remember guys bitching about playing time. Of course we had a different starting 11 on Offense, Defense and Special teams.

Do stats really tell the whole story? You'd have to see the teams they faced. I mean lets say the senior played against nothing but playoff teams and the soph played cupcakes? Does that make it a little better? And none of us know the coach, he may have been a huge prick.

I've seen it 1000 times playing and coaching, kid doesn't get playing time, oh it's just because the coach doesn't like me. Next year it's "Oh I quit because the coach was an a-hole" For some reason that never seems to bother the guys who are good enough to play...
Tell you what going into high school I was not a very good basketball player, I worked my arse off, harder than pretty much all my teammates and they admitted that. By my senior year I was a contributing member of the team, played significant minutes but always came off the bench. Didn't bother me one bit, I got the amount of playing time that I deserved based off of the quality of player I was and nothing else. Did I believe there were some guys starting that I was as good as? Sure but that's not my decision, and when I got minutes I played my arse off and that turned into more and more minutes for me

I have mixed feelings about the douche coach argument. I was screwed during my junior year baseball season. Kid in front of me started since sophomore year, brother was an assistant coach, and he was a senior. Our coach absolutely loved seniors. Anyways, this guy literally had 23 errors through 7 games and it wasn't enough to make the switch. I played a little second base, but pinch hit for most the year.
But... I't didn't make me quit. I thought about quitting to play golf (I'm a 6 handicap and our school is the national leader in state golf championships), but that would have been a compliment to the coach. He stayed at the school, but quit coaching baseball my senior year. I proceeded to bat .496, get all-city and all-state, city POY, and finished 2nd at state. That was my way of saying frick you to my coach. Not by quitting.

In this season alone I've had 5 parents bitch to me about their kids playing time and not one of them have been to even one practice. 99% of the time if a kid is not playing it means he isn't good enough.

Tbh, the real reason I hate it was because my dad complained to the coaches. It was really embarrassing and made me want to quit.

that's a major point. but the kid still shouldn't have punished the rest of his team by scoring on his team.
it was his coach he was pissed off at, presumably not his team-mates

I have mixed feelings on this but one thing I will not let my kid do is quit. The little league team he played on last year was loaded with father coaches who all thought there kids should bat 1st thru 4th and pitch and play the in-field. We didn't win a game. I told my son to just play hard and learn as much as you can because there is always next year. This year he's playing on the school team and is playing third base where he should have played last year.

how my HS soccer career went out, inmature on my end looking back on it but saying frick this im out b/c the new coach messed with everything we had before that worked and not playing the right players turned into a shite show.
Our old coach became the asst AD after having a team that made it to the semi's in regonals almost making state and a jv team that lost 2 games the whole year to getting knocked out the first round of districts and a jv team that won 4 games with a new staff. The varsity team in terms of talent got better with jv players moving up and the result was worse. Needless to say this guy got canned after a 2nd awful year. His biggest fail was putting the back up jv goalie on varsity b/c he was from brazil.

This shite is going to haunt him for the rest of his life in ways he doesn't yet comprehend. Thanks to the internet, it'll come up every time he applies for a job, and the potential employer will wonder if he'll pull some kind of sabotage if things don't go his way at work.
And all his peers who think it was great will see it as the douche move it was once they get a little maturity on them after high school.
He's going to spend the rest of his life trying to live this down in one way or another. It's not like a criminal record or anything, and it's not insurmountable. But once in a while it'll jump up and remind him of how stupid actions have consequences.

Exactly, the coaches should play the best player regardless of class.
I've seen this at our high school, volleyball coach only played her upperclassmen despite having Freshmen who were much better. They went as far as having the Fr. setter teach the older setter how to do things she was taught in club and college clinics but would not allow her to do the same things in the Fr. or JV games. Needless to say she no longer plays for them.
