Cause it's their own damn fault. They basically conceded it from the beginning.
ULL couldn't change their name unless another school also did the same so that neither would be able to usurp the UL moniker, NLU agreed to change their name, and thus it was ULM & ULL.
ULL had this idea from the outset and NLU just let them do it

Looks like the one from Monroe has no problem with a sort of promotion of their city. On the other hand the one from Lafayette must not like that name "Lafayette". Maybe the city should ask what the school has against Lafayette.

Actually I-20 has an exit sign with University of Louisiana in very large letters. Way underneath in small letters is the word 'Monroe'. They're still a small regional school but have a very hard time accepting it.
