So me and some buddies decided to go to the US Open at Pinehurst next weekend. We've decided to each pick a player, and if our guy wins then that person doesn't have to buy any drinks the rest of the trip. We're staying a few days after the tourney playing golf, watching the world cup, etc. so needless to say many drinks will be bought.

Anyways, I don't really follow golf or know many of the big players. The other 3 guys have already picked, with their players being Furyk, Kuchar, and Spieth.

So..who should I pick? Like I said I don't really ever watch golf aside from the Masters so I don't know shite about who's playing well, who's hot, who's struggling, etc.

I already know he's not playing but any serious responses would be appreciated.

You're a Georgia boy, show your pride and go with Bubba or Harrison Frazer.

All of us are

go with Bubba

He's probably the only other golfer I could name, it seems too cliche to go with him. Who has been playing real well recently? Is there a site with betting odds I can reference?

Phil

It's the only major he has never won and has been runner-up a record 6 times.. including last year.

This is the only thing he wants and needs to cap off his hall of fame career.

Bubba's won twice and was close last week.....and he will certainly provide some entertainment.

Probably would have been among my top 5/6 picks

Other I like:

Adam Scott (bc he's the best right now)
Luke Donald
Lee Westwood

bubba can't hit the fairway consistently, and he sure can't deal with the bad bounces and results he's gonna get from seemingly good shots ...

the us open is about fairways and greens, and not so much about putting ... sergio garcia will do well, tho he won't win ... henrik stenson played well last week in his home country ... finished 4th, i think ... i also like martin kaymer ... he can shape his shots either way and has made a nice comeback from injury ...

Stenson botched the end of that tournament.

He'll be out for blood week of the us open.

Thanks all that's the kind of advice I was looking for.

If AS is the best he'd probably be a safe pick right?

How do the above guys stack up in that category IYO?

Also someone mentioned Rory, how's he been playing lately?

Rors has potential to win any week, but he's been shooting big numbers on some days that puts him out of reach. He is feast or famine, or back-doors Top 10s.

In US Opens it's important to scramble, putt, and hit it straight to avoid penal rough.

Usually more experienced players are in contention. Guys like Furyk, Phil, and Stricker are worth a look for that reason.

Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson and Keegan Bradley aren't bad picks, IMO. My completely outlying black horse would be Brendan Todd. He's been hot lately.
