I forgot who it was, I think it was a police officer of some sort that was talking to me about Zbo on an episode cribs showing off gold plated weapons. Said they had to pay him a visit after that

Another time, in the visiting locker room in Dallas, I had Rasheed Wallace threaten to punch me after a playoff-game loss. Deadline was approaching, I’m the only writer in the locker room and I’m asking Rasheed questions, and he whips around, and tells me to get out of his space or he’s going to punch me out. At that point, his teammates are all looking to see how I react, and in no way am I going to back down. I’m looking at Rasheed, and thinking if he takes a swing I’m going to try and stuff him into the locker behind him if only because journalists everywhere need me to man up in that situation. Either that, or I’m going to get knocked out and blow my deadline. So I tell him I’m not moving. I just stand there, holding my notepad and recorder, and we’re staring at each other. He eventually storms past me to the shower, and while he’s gone Zach Randolph, a rookie then, leans in to me and says, “When ‘sheed comes back, make sure you don’t have your back to him. He’ll sucker punch you.” The great irony is that a month later Randolph sucker-punched Ruben Patterson during a practice breaking his eye socket. Someone was holding Patterson’s arms when Randolph threw the haymaker. There was a period of a few days after that incident where Randolph hid out at Dale Davis’ house because he feared that Patterson was going to try and shoot him.

I keep finding posts on different hoops forums from like 08-09 when that story came out quoting it

If they even sniff around some of the stories in this thread, this will be an amazing 30 for 30.

i think my favorite story is that they called ruben patterson lubin ruben after they caught him jacking it to a victoria secret catalog

eta:
quote:

“One time Damon [Stoudamire] caught Ruben jerking it to a Victoria’s Secret catalogue. The guys wouldn’t let him live that down. He was Lubin’ Ruben after that. Rasheed [Wallace] and Zach Randolph were relentless. Those two made his life hell, calling him Lubin’ Ruben every chance they got. Ruben once told me he was contemplating “taking them out in front of everyone in the locker room,” but I talked him out of it. I told him he would probably miss and hit Steve Kerr.”

They used to always frick with Reubin Patterson to the point where they were scared shitless he'd kill them.

i think it was shawn kemp who actually started hiring protection because he was afraid of ruben killing him because he would give ruben non stop shite over his whole sexual assault charge

“For the most part, the veterans weren’t subjected to this type of stuff. Pippen, Kerr, Arvydas Sabonis, Dale Davis; these guys were respected. Maybe Rasheed would call Arvydas “Saboners” every once in a while, but it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. However, the worst incident I can remember involved a respected vet. In 2002, some of us were in the gym before practice when Zach and Jeff McInnis got into a shouting match over hookers or something. This type of stuff happened like every other day so most of us just ignored it. Zach just lost it and fired a 5 lb. plate at Jeff. He missed way high and hit veteran center Chris Dudley in the back of the head. He had no idea what hit him. Zach actually felt pretty bad about it; Rasheed thought it was hysterical. Duds was out cold and we had no idea what to do. Antonio [Daniels], Arvydas, and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje carried him to a massage table and laid him face down so anyone who saw him would just think he was waiting to get a massage. I had about 20 or 25 extra headbands in my locker so I just started wrapping those around Chris’ head to try to stop the bleeding. He woke up about 30 minutes later wondering what happened and why he was wearing 15 headbands. We just blamed it on Lubin’ Ruben. Duds was a real team player and didn’t want this to be a distraction so he just let it go.”

Jesus, that's awesome.

Blazer's management completely wasted those rosters by letting shite like this go on.

Agreed. Plus SA, Dallas, and the TMac/Yao Rocket Squad. Early to Mid 2000's. That was my middle school / early high school years. And in my opinion, the Golden Era of the NBA for me.

I'm actually going through the rosters on basketball reference now reminiscing all the rosters.

Seriously. People forget just how good that squad was.

The 1999 and 2000 editions of the Blazers, especially were scary as frick.

I always wonder... if Portland had won that game and went on to beat Indiana in the Finals, would the Lakers have ever won a championship with Shaq and Kobe? Or would they have broken the team up that offseason?

No way. Lakers would've won the title the next two years anyway.

Or at least in 2001 alone if you exclude the 2002 Kings screwjob.
