With Harbaugh now officially signed to a new deal, is there any hope for Michigan fans to ever again see their beloved Wolverines competing for Big Ten and national championships? It seems to me the administration is content with watching Ohio State run the conference for the foreseeable future. Then again...who the hell can they get to rival the Buckeyes right now?

I have no faith in Harbaugh to win anything of substance. Sucks as a lifelong UM fan

When was the last time they were actually in the running for a championship at the end of the season?

It's not a Harbaugh thing, it's a Michigan thing.

They almost won the right to go get stumped out by Florida in '06 but, as is tradition, they lost to OSU.

They significantly lowered his buyout and cut his salary by half.

It's a smart move if they can't get anyone better right now. It gives them more financial flexibility to make a hire next year.

I really don’t understand why people are freaking out about this

There really wasn’t a better option out there for them specifically and they got him to cut his salary in half.

2016, they were undefeated coming into The Game. Came up 2 inches shy of a title.

Then the revenge tour of 2018 also came up short in The Game.

If they were in the ACC instead of Clemson, they would have been in at least two CFP semi finals.

Yeah, they were good in '16 and '18. I do think the revenge tour thrashing took the sails out of the program. They have lost a decent amount of guys to the NFL the last few seasons and don't just simply reload like the elite teams. That killed the defense, and the combo of McCaffrey leaving and Milton sucking led to this year's disaster. I hope it was a blip on the radar, but it's probably at trend.

I am guessing Illinois is taking over the spot that Michigan held for so long!

They aren’t quite down there with Nebraska and Tennessee but they can be what Virginia Tech was in the 2000s if they quit pretending they can be Florida State in the 90s.

It's not Michigan, it's the AD. He's spineless.

Maybe they should've hired Clay Helton away.

Maybe Harbaugh should jump back to the Pac. There's no Ohio State in the Pac right now.

My apologies. They were top 4 when they played Ohio State and had a clear path to the CFP if they won.

Michigan is content with a Mack Brown type coach.

They can literally fire him next year and owe him basically nothing.

It's like signing an old NFL player to a long deal with guaranteed money for only the first year.

Michigan holds all the cards now.

Their President is COVID crazy and didn't want to buy him out during a pandemic. That's all this is.

I actually thought that Harbaugh was on the hot seat, then they signed him long term.

Fine with me. There are schools like Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota who can pick up the slack.

Let Michigan be Michigan. They deserve the mediocre football they have decided on. The idea that they are some blue blood and college football is better with them in contention is garbage. Yale and Harvard and Princeton are not giants anymore and college football is doing well.

Nononononono.

They were only beginning the tradition.
