I understand getting Carwin on the ground wouldn't be easy, but putting him self in a position to sub Carwin was Mir's ONLY chance.

Pulling guard on Carwin would have been tricky as well. You basically have to put yourself in a clinch position up against the cage to start if you want to have a good shot at doing it. Yall saw how that turned out when they got in that position.

When asked if Fitch might be awarded a rematch next with St. Pierre, White described the wrestler as “in the mix.” White then suggested a bout between Fitch and his AKA teammate Josh Koscheck to determine a clearer No. 1 contender. Fitch declined the offer, to which White responded that the fighter must not want a title shot bad enough.

“If that fight happened, it would happen in our gym with the doors closed,” said Fitch.

“That would make a lot money,” deadpanned White.

that was me bitch. i'm watching it right now. gonzaga pops him a few times in the face, pushes him against the fence, then takes his arse to the ground without a problem. the entire point, which most of you redneck/whitetrash MMA fans can't grasp, was that if he got "pushed around" like that by gonzaga it will be even worse against brock. frick you MMA elitists suck. me >>> you. sissy cuckold

Well, then looking back on it Carwin was an easy pick for an underdog in this fight. He had Mir standing and Mir couldn't get him on the ground to use his BJJ.

That head slam by Pellegrino was the turning point of the fight. That guy was in la la land the entire fight after that.

THE WEEK IN MIR OR FRANK LIKES TO STICK HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH

"I made the Brock stuff out to more than I had to just to promote a fight. I'm pretty content and happy. If Brock's in the future than he is." - Former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir, promoting a fight that didn't exist. (Cage Writer)

"He's one of the best versions of [Brock] Lesnar; a much more dangerous version." - Mir, who couldn't discuss UFC 111 opponent Shane Carwin without comparing him to foe Brock Lesnar. (Fight! Magazine)

"I see someone that wants to be an outcast from society and live up in the mountains and bullies people. That’s not me. So I guess yeah, I guess I have a problem with Lesnar." - Mir, a self-admitted outcast and hailing from one of the most toxic cities in the world. Also bullies people.

"But I'm not so much obsessed with Lesnar as a person, as I am with the techniques and positioning he used to beat me. And it's an obsession that will do me well with this fight." - Mir, who's obsession failed him when Carwin shut his lights off dirty boxing in the clinch. (MMA Mania)

"My last couple of fights, I've shown that I use a lot of angles, throw punches in different areas, and I keep myself out of harm by using footwork. On my feet, I feel comfortable as long as I fight intelligently and use the fact that I have a lot more experience and use the range to my advantage." - Mir, with famous last words. Going into the fight I thought Mir would have the advantage standing if he kept his distance. That is what he failed to do. Big bear got paws on him.

Is it time to start a Gomi/Florian thread? I gotta pull for the Jap (no offense to the Orientals...lol@Parcells) here. I've always hated Florian (except on MMALive) and loved the way Gomi fights. I'm still PO'd he got robbed vs Sergei. Nelson vs Steub should be a good one too. The rest I don't care to much about but it is free.

Did Lesnar come out and talk shite to Mir when he got KTFO?

no. he was actually pretty mild by his standard. He congratulated Carwin, shook his hand, and even fist bumped him. but he also told Carwin that he won a fake belt. Brock being Brock. He'll start shite-talking soon enough.
