Ted Williams risks his .400 average by playing in a doubleheader to end the season. He could've sat, instead he goes 6 for 8.

If that happened today that would be in the running but that was a different time, when men were real men, and there is NO WAY an extreme badass like Ted Williams would sit.

can't believe I forgot that one.

Speaking of the iron horse, Ripken Jr breaking the record and hitting a homer in that game should be up there

Love Ripken, but I don't think it stands up to those. Cal had a great moment while setting a milestone, but Williams risked the milestone. Gehrig's is certainly the weightiest, but its not a competitive moment.

Still, 3 all time great moments from 3 all time greats.

The fact that Gibson was on bum knees and his reaction while hobbling around the base is what makes it so memorable. But yeah, all things being equal, Carter's was more meaningful

The heavily favored A's never recovered.

Don't get caught up in the fact that it was the 1st game.

Won it.

Eck > Mitch Williams

Gibson never took another at-bat in the series and didn't need to. 3-2 against the best closer at the time. Backdoor slider - his out pitch - HR.

there is only one moment that warrants this title: Chris Burke, Astros - Braves, 2005, 18th inning.
