They debunk the myth of athletes getting bigger/faster/stronger.

Jesse Owens running on cinder, without starting blocks etc was obvious.

Some of the others I was not aware of.
I've always argued this, and thought that it's illogical to think that all of the greatest athletes in history just happened to be born in the last 30 years.

I’d like to see Babe Ruth try to play in today’s baseball game and I would love to see Ronald Acuna play in yesterday’s babe Ruth baseball days

Let them play an entire season and then compare stats

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

There were always elite athletes, I just think as a whole athletes are bigger faster and stronger.

Compare the last man on the roster now to the last man on the roster 50 years ago.

Because the video is 15 minutes long and people were shite posting 6 minutes after the OP was posted.

It's called math.
Not too bright are you ?

Babe only faced two pitchers in his career who could pitch above 90 MPH

So I have to watch every second of the 15 min video or there’s no way to understand the point they’re trying to make?

source ?

Would he have a career .342 batting average? No
Would he still be dominant and contend for HR titles every year ? Yes

Babe Ruth used the heaviest bat in baseball history.
I'm sure with todays lighter bats he would have been able to adjust to slightly faster pitching.

Eye hand coordination is still there.

35 years later, over 40 pounds heavier

quote:

The Washington Redskins' fabled “Hogs” offensive line from 1982 weighed an average of 280.2 pounds.

Last season, (2017) the average Washington lineman weighed 321.4 pounds.

How many running backs today are bigger/faster/stronger than Bo Jackson & Herschel Walker ?

I'm guessing zero.

How many corners are faster than Deion & Darrel Green ?

How many WR's are faster than Bob Hayes ?

How many LB's are bigger/faster/stronger than Lawrence Taylor ?

Derrick Henry is not faster than Bo & Herschel.

Hell, Herschel might be able to outrun him today.

He’s bigger and stronger, and close enough in speed. As far as I know Henry never ran track, so it’s hard to gauge. I’m an Auburn fan and I’m not even going to try and argue that Bo’s 4.12 second 40 yard dash was accurate.

But just 2 years ago Derrick Henry was recorded with a top speed of 21.8 mph in a game, which was the fastest speed recorded by any NFL player that season: LINK

I love over the years how this board has argued that evolution happens overnight from generation to generation...

...and the presumption that the latest generation is automatically bigger, stronger, faster...simply by being the most recent human incarnation.

Nevermind that evolution is about the slowest fricking million years thing in nature and that its known previous, not too distant people...10 generations ago...were actually bigger and taller than the shrimps we are now.

Myth debunked: Our medieval ancestors were probably bigger and just as tall as us says a new study.

See...we don't always trend upwards, sometimes we regress.

Don't get me started on the giant humans 10,000 years ago. Grab some Joe Rogan weed if you'd like to know more.

But, but, but...Evolution! Gatorade, better nutrition, Power Bars!..Everything that is last is automatically best! My 3rd grade teacher told me so.

The video is mostly addressing speed.

Track, Swimming, Running.
Are Football Lineman bigger? Yes
Are corners and wr's faster ? No

Baseball is the sport that transfers easiest from past days to now, because it's a skill, eye hand coordination.

Plus players back in the day played in some mammoth stadiums vs the band box launching pads of today.
And that was a dead ball era, and Babe still hit tape measure shots and 714 home runs even though he was a pitcher for the first 5 years or so of his career.

To think that Babe Ruth wouldn't be great today is just pure ignorance.

Honestly, who cares? Even if it were true that players from past generations wouldn’t be competitive today, why does that matter? That shouldn’t diminish that player’s accomplishments in any way.

It’s like saying, “Let’s see how Napoleon’s army would have faired against tanks.” Or “Alexander Graham Bell didn’t invent my smartphone.”

Our society criticizes the positions and physical condition of long dead men because those men made the horrible mistake of sharing the majority opinion and maximizing their potential at the time they were alive.

So what if Jesse Owens isn’t as fast as the modern athlete? Would the modern athlete have been that fast in Owens’ time? It’s a pointless debate.

Exactly .

I read an article a few years ago where scientists claimed that your average farmer from centuries ago had the equivalent strength of todays "strong men" powerlifters etc.

They based this on their bone size/density & the insane heavy lifting they did in farming methods back then.
