Attorney Gregg Levy, who was one of the finalists for the job Goodell received in 2006, participated in the Brady appeal hearing as a legal consultant to the Commissioner. It’s believed that Levy has been warning Goodell that it will be difficult to make a suspension stick in court, even under the heightened standard that applies to challenging the outcome of a private arbitration agreement.

per Florio.

It seems 4 owners, ironically of teams the Patriots play, are fighting hard to keep the penalties.

Love Goodell not getting his way. Hate that it results in the Pats getting off easy

Probably the other 3 AFC East owners plus Denver.

It amazes me that any owner would back Goodell. I hope the NFLPA fricks the league over next go round.

Jerry Jones and Bob McNair are part of it.

Goodell will come out looking like a fool no matter what happens in this case.

no sympathy here.

even the players with the Saints didn't have to sit because of his BS punishment.

but Anthony Hargrove's career was essentially ruined. He had signed with Green Bay after leaving the Saints but I don't think he ever played for them.

That's the day I lost all respect for Goodell. At first I was swayed by the promise of thousands of pages of evidence... But that evidence never came. The NFL fans were lied to and manipulated to be outraged enough that people didn't want evidence, they wanted blood. It was sickening to watch.

The NFLPA is absolutely worthless if they don't take away his "judge jury and executioner" powers away from him in the new CBA

The NFLPA is the weakest of the big 3 sports. They need to hire the baseball guys and create a war fund.

No doubt

They pump their fist whenever they get a rookie wage scale and an unenforced salary floor which basically just took away money and leverage for half of their players careers

Meanwhile the NBA has fully guaranteed contracts and is getting the salary cap raised by huge amounts and is finding petty shite like a retirement fund for ex players to bitch about

It's hard to judge if it's just my Saints bias or whatever, but it feels like that was one of the most egregious but under reported stories I can recall in quite a while. Goodell drops all suspensions when they realized they'd have to actually present the evidence they claimed to have and I think he'd have to testify, and he does so under the guise of the players are guilty but we don't want to deal with it any more, then the media talked about it for a couple of days and that was basically it as a national story.

Granted, I'm guessing you can only talk and write it about it for so long, but even with some of the backlash Goodell received for that, I felt like it wasn't 1/10th of what he should have received.

1. I'm not a Saints fan (but not anti Saints).
2. I don't like SP at all.
2. I sort of enjoyed watching the Saints fans melt down.

BUT, I agree with you. I thought the whole thing was ridiculous even if there was some sort of horrible bounty system. Since there was no evidence of anything more than just typical locker room stuff, Goodell can go screw himself. He's a scumbag.

Brady should be let go
Belichick is the one that needs to be suspended.
He cheats and everyone knows it and the head coach is responsible see Sean Payton

It isnt the lawyers fault, it is the players. Baseball players as a whole are smart enough to save money, so they are able to strike and sit out in order to get what they want. Football players somehow are so stupid they live paycheck to paycheck, and the owners know this. They have absolutely no bargaining power compared to MLB players

So dumb to agree to this. What did they think the outcome was going to be?

Well the commissioner has always had those powers

Goodell has just been the only one to completely overstep his bounds and be a complete fricktard about it because he wants so bad to have a great legacy and he wants a gold jacket in Canton
