Punch to an island green? Not even most scratch players would be able to keep it on depending on the size of the green

A 14 handicap, you should have punched out sideways and continued from there. Believe it or not, you were playing to exactly your handicap, so why get cute?

LCCC ?

If so, sounds like you hit it too far right off the tee.

Great. The new practice is killing it and we are settling in. Bought a house on the course. Hasn't helped my game though.

Agree to the comment that the wrong decision was off the box. Assuming hole is 250 ( 190 to water + 60 to the green )..

At 14 handicap you would want a full club into an island green ( 100 yards? ). So the tee shot needed to be 140-160 yards.

How far do you hit your wedge? That is where I would want to be after my tee shot.

I hit my 60 degree 75. My 6 iron should have been perfect. I hit a sprinkler head or something

Fod damn annoying people here.
"Oh my god you made the mistake off the tee"
"What you wanted to do was stripe the ball directly where you wanted and have a perfect approach to the green"

No shite, if he could do that he wouldn't have any problems

Wow, I was wasted last night when I posted in this thread.
Completely forgot.

It's true though. Next time hit it on the green and you're golden.

Was there a bunker on the back side of the green? Only way to hold it would be hit a punch cut, which most mid to high cappers couldn't do. Probably should have pitched out sideways and played it safely.

Does the hole have a drop zone or would you be hitting your 4th shot from the greenside if you skilled a punch shot through the island?

I'm pretty sure all island greens are yellow marked hazards, which would mean any drop he would make (other than in a designated drop zone) would have to be short of the water. It's impossible to drop outside of a drop zone near the green without being closer to the hole.

Did I read the OP correctly...190 to the water then only 60 yd carry? So only a 250yd drive to the green????
