Sources: Patrick Ewing has a multi-year deal to become Georgetown's coach. He will start immediately, leaving Charlotte's staff now.

Charlotte's Steve Clifford has been immense advocate for Ewing to take Hoya job, insisting he didn't need to finish NBA season w/ Hornets.

He should hire Iverson as an assistant. They would kill it in recruiting

That's a solid hire. He's going to do great over there.

Wow. He has been an assistant for almost as long as he was a player. Good for him on getting a head gig

I wonder how many non-conference games Georgetown will now schedule in Atlanta.

He may need a bachelor's degree for that position.

He may be great, but Georgetown should have looked outside of the Hoya family. They have been below average since Big John retired for sticking with G'Town people.

It's a second-tier Blue Blood program. Could have done a lot better.

Excellent hire. I'm ready for Georgetown to become a power again. Always loved watching them, St. John's, uconn , Cincinnati etc. in big east basketball.

I've always liked Patrick Ewing. I am glad he finally got his chance. His name has been tossed around for NBA head coaching jobs but no one seems to want to try him on. Hopefully he does well at GTown.

He was being mentioned for NBA jobs. I think this was a good hire even if it was within their network.

While they dropped off post JT junior and on a bad 5 yr stretch, post JT they have a Final 4, 3 Sweet 16s and made tournament some 8 of past 11 years

JT3 style got screwed with rule changes plus evolving game and couldn't keep up. Before that though, the guy was winning big at GTown and people thought he'd be a success

I come from a Georgetown family and grew up a huge fan

While they are a second tier blue blood, they have some really bad negatives like not having an on campus arena, playing in a too big VZW Center off campus, and having a geographically dispersed alumni base Add to that Georgetowns academic requirements and that they historically didn't budge a ton

A ton of potential for sure but not all coaches could succeed there

It's amazing how much power/sway Big John still has. Pretty remarkable.
