Formula 1 Race - USGP Parking and General Info

Was wondering if anyone had any good tips on how to attend the race this fall? Probably buying GA tickets and going to hang between turns 1 and 9. Thought about buying a parking lot pass but they are $320 for the weekend. Is there a bunch of offsite parking on the southeast side of the track towards those turns? Didn't know if people charged for attendees to park at their houses for like $20 a car and then I can just walk to the track.
Any help on the best way to see the race would be great.
FYI we are staying in San Antonio since it's much cheaper than Austin.

Yes, locals rent out their land to park. It isn't really much cheaper, but it is available...and a long walk, figure more than a mile to the front gates.
Leaving will probably continue to be one of the biggest clusterfricks you have experienced. Leaving LSU after a game is like a Sunday afternoon drive compared to what you will likely experience.
