Kickoffs that go out of bounds result in the receiving team getting it on the 40, but no penalty for punts. Both are a change of possession through a kick, why the different treatment?

The reason is that the KO is a free kick (i.e. no one is allowed to try and block it) so it would be too easy for the kicker to just coffin corner the KO everytime. A punt is not a free kick, therefore the punter many times is punting under duress. It would be unfair in my opinion to have a rule that punters have to keep the ball inbounds, because it is much tougher to punt inbounds rather than kick inbounds.

Intentional Grounding - there really is no penalty for attempting it, it is the same result as getting sacked at that spot, you still "lose the down" anyway so why not try it.. should be 10 yds back from the spot of the foul & loss of down.

the only rules I disagree with are some of the overprotection of the QB rules

It's a business and he is an expensive investment.

If you were an owner...You would love the rule. Look at the difference not having Peyton Manning has made in Indy.

The NFL defense can't score on the XP attempt.

It's an EXTRA point attempt...why should the defense be allowed to score in Bonus time.

I would like to see the extra point moved back to the 23 yard line...Making it a 40 yard attempt from the 30.

I think the extra point is stupid for pros and college because they make that 99% of the time. When they miss it's a freak accident or miracle block. Either give them the 7 or you can take 6 and try for a 2 point conversion.

The only rule I have a problem with is on a 'Dead ball foul' against the offense and the play resulted in a first down. The offense is penalized 15 yards but it's still 1st & 10. IMO it should be 1st & 25, because the down and distance is more of a penalty than just a yardage penalty. OK, i'm off my soap dish now...

1. Fumbling forward and out of the end zone is a touchback and the other team is awarded possession. WFT? Why such a big penalty to the offensive team? Shouldn't the offense just get it at the 1 yard line?
This one makes no sense. Fumble the ball out of bounds anywhere else on the field and your team retains possession, but happen to be good enough to get to the goal line before you fumble and the other team gets the ball. Should be returned to the spot of the fumble or offensive team retains possession from the point where PAT attempts are spotted.

1. I sort of agree. But, what's to stop someone who is short and won't get in the endzone from purposely fumbling into the endzone out of bounds to get another chance and set of downs from the 1? Thus, I like the rule as is.
Who says he gets another set of downs? Just spot the ball where it was fumbled and it should be whatever down and distance would have been had he been tackled at that point.

I agree a very harsh penalty indeed. Instead of the 1, maybe punish them with a 15 yard penalty but let the offense keep the ball.
