I think the biggest testament to Kobe is that some people still see him as the best or pretty much right there. Obviously, Lebron, Durant, and even a healthy Chris Paul are better, but Kobe's work ethic and influence on the game and the other players is so remarkable. Yeah, he is a supreme dickbag, but almost every NBA player has learned so much from him. His impact on the game is amazing because it changed some of the ways other guys around him approached the game.

The detractors of Kobe are pretty laughable. They are just as bad as the Lebron and Howard haters. Sure, his shooting percentage is not all world, but Jordan is really the only guard to have such an unbelievable career field goal percentage. Falling short of Jordan is nothing to be ashamed of. Kobe's lengthy and wildly successful makes him at least a reasonable comparison to Jordan, although Kobe is basically Jordan light.

For me, I think Kobe will be the player I will always enjoy watching the most. His shot selection can be infuriating at times, but when he is on, there is nothing more exciting to watch. I am going to miss watching Kobe.

I don't think anyone has or should question Kobe's work ethic

Does not make him any less of a douche or a-hole though

Those are the kind of workouts that Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan used to do. Pretty amazing stuff.

Larry Bird used to shoot basketballs in HS until his hands bled from blisters.

If Lebron worked like Bird or Kobe, think how nasty he would be.

Not saying he doesn't work hard, because he obviously improves every year, but I wish he would bust his arse like Kobe all-day everyday.

I always do this shooting FTs.

Can't leave the floor unless I'm shooting at least 80% with a minimum of 10 attempts.

The truly great ones are always like this. There are guys that have had the talent of Kobe, MJ, or Deion Sanders, but it is rare to find someone with that elite talent that really works harder than anyone else at it.

We used to do the "10 in a row or practice doesn't end" thing.

Also, the coach would make every player shoot 2 in a row before moving to the next player and we had to run a down and back for every miss. BRUTAL.

See this is what i dont get, who knows how hard Lebron works. I hate how everyone assumes guys like Ray Lewis/Kobe outwork everybody because they are vocal. Lebron could be busting his arse harder then everyone. We just know what the media wants us to know

Eta: "We say he’s taking after Kobe, of course, since Kobe did this same thing a couple seasons ago – after a loss to LeBron’s Heat in that very same American Airlines Arena, no less. And LeBron’s refined the art of the post-embarrassing-loss workout: rather than do it right on the arena floor, he went to a more secluded practice court, all the better for avoiding accusations that the whole thing was more about PR than anything. There is, best we can tell, no footage of LeBron’s workout, unlike Kobe’s." Link from article how Lebron went workout after a loss. But since he chose to do it in the practice arena unlike Kobe, the media didnt catch on

It's crazy as hard as he works, Lebron's still better on sheer genetics and athleticism alone.

Good lord man. Everyone that follows the NBA thoroughly has known for years that Kobe's work ethic is second to none in the NBA. You can find that information ANYWHERE. Dude was playing at a high level in his SEVENTEENTH season in the NBA, working his arse off for 40+ minutes every night to try to will a lackluster Lakers team into the playoffs until his knee literally said "F off Kobe". Then, he kept playing like a moron until his Achilles literally said "You've got to be mother freaking kidding me." He didn't have the luxury of limit restrictions like Tim Duncan does. Tim hasn't averaged 35 MPG in 9 seasons, and hasn't averaged 32 MPG in the last 4.

Lebron might work hard. He might work harder than 95% of the players in the NBA for all I know. But there is nobody in the NBA that works as hard as Kobe. And, once again, he will prove it to you by coming back for his 18th season, earlier than most people would take to rehab that serious of an injury, and play at a high level...again.

I hate the Lakers. I HATE the Lakers bandwagon in NOLA. But I respect the living crap out of anyone that works that hard to be that good. Kobe is the last of a dying breed in the NBA, and I'll enjoy every second of it until his wheels literally fall off.

Also, for those claiming that Kobe is a complete a-hole. At one of the home games last year, Vasquez was interviewed and asked what his favorite moment in the NBA was. He said that one game, after playing the Lakers, Kobe personally went up to him after the game and told him,"I see you working. I see you doing things the right way. Keep doing what you're doing."

He may be an a-hole. But that dude loves the game of basketball. It is his life. And if he thinks you respect his game and his life, Kobe Bryant is appreciative.

Like I said, the last of a dying breed. No recruiting pitch (LBJ), no ulterior motives, just a guy that loves his game.
