Guy was asked to take off the tie twice and was promoting a direct competitor of a sponsor. Deserved to be fired.

In Rational People World, you don't fire someone over something so minor, which would draw a lot of attention to yourself.

However, in Irrational, Immature, and Insecure Douchebag World, anything is a fireable offense it seems.

You cannot be serious. I'd say the Bears do. They're paying 250K a year to the dealership.

They're not going to revoke the sponsorship because one dude wore a tie. In fact, they wouldn't even know that one dude wore a tie on one day unless the manager acted like an immature, insecure, irrational punk with a power trip and decided to fire the guy.

Story would have been great if a disgruntled Bears fan came into buy a car and beat the crap out of the guy in an emotional moment.

Then you have free enterprise all the way around.

The guy was or course a loser that wasnt selling much anyway. If he was he wouldnt have been fired. If I told one of my guys to take a piece of clothing off and he didnt after I told him a couple of times Id fire his arse too. Dont forget if he is wearing a Pack tie around Bears fans he is running business off and costing me fricking money. Id have told him to pack his shite too.

I had some guys sporting Obama stuff in 2008 and some with McCain buttons. I told them to take that shite off and they did.

A random button <> a tie.

All the guy had to do was reprimand the dude. You know, handle it like an adult.

This is true. Due to all the media attention, the Bears are much more likely to end the relationship with the dealer than had the guy just been allowed to wear the tie.

He told the guy to take it off several times and the guy refused. If the guy is the GM of a dealership large enough to get 250K sponsorship from the Bears he is most likely a pretty good business man and knows how to deal with employees. He didnt get there by accident. My dealership is much smaller but I cant imagine in the same situation the guy refusing to take the tie off. Thats just insubordintaion IMO.

Jackass Jerry Roberts The GM..better get ready for good lawyers offering their services to John Stone for free.

The backlash alone, to these no-sense-humor type firing stories, even if without a potential lawsuit cost..is just bad PR in the court of public opinion. Toss in the sympathy points via grandma died/tie-wearing tribute..

Dumb!

He told him twice, and didn't mention why either time. Furthermore, part of the dress code is to wear a tie. Best case scenario, the manager should have said, "Take off the tie because of our sponsorship. I'll let you not wear a tie only this time. If it happens again, you'll be suspended."

He does that, then the story doesn't exist. But he doesn't because he's a douchebag idiot.

That's a huge reach. He's a fricking car salesman.

There are varying degrees to all "violations", and if this guy is as good a manager as you think he is, then he would be capable of realizing that. Thing is, he's not. I highly doubt that he's capable of critical or even higher thought.

Regardless of sponsorships, car salesmen are down the totem-pole in the court of public opinion to many folks in the first place, in terms of ethics. Toss in the wacky sense of humored and/or selling selves as very friendly people-oriented in car dealership commercials that fill the airwaves..

Wreaks of hypocrisy in firing a guy for wearing a simple tie..hell..it could be alibi'ed as a simple wager lost..

There is no solid alibi for GM Jerry's actions..none..even the Halas family would chuckle at the tie.

If Stone, were a questionable salesman, already on the bubble, that's one thing. But, if he was a solid guy, getting canned for "insubordination" over his right to wear an ugly tie, is not gonna fly.

Do you know what a guy like him makes?

Im not defending the guy unconditionally. No doubt he could have made a judgement error but neither of us were there so what really went down is unknown.

I dont think you understand what kind of thinking and knowledge is involved in running a dealership.

Do you know what the difference is in a car salesman and a real estate agent?

Thats the beauty, there is no punchline.

One sells houses, one sells cars. Other than that, zero difference.

Realtors aren't nearly the sportsbetting degenerates that are used car guys.
