I live in the Baton Rouge area, and I want to like the Astros, but since I never get to see them on TV, I can't get to know the roster and it's much harder to become a fan.

Which makes me less likely to drive to Houston on the weekend to watch them play in person.

So what is MLB's logic for blacking out Astros games in the Baton Rouge market? I have to be missing something here...

my guess is that the Astros have no stroke with MLB and never have. it's a loser franchise that's had one good period in it's 50+ yrs of existence.

but, you can drive to Houston and watch a game. hell, you can also drive to Atlanta and watch a game.

I've got an MLB.tv subscription. Still can't watch Stros games on it.

Thanks, I'll check it out

Still wondering why MLB has this blackout in place for a market 5 hours away

MLB blacks out all Astros and Rangers games in TX, OK, and LA. It's ridiculous. Reddit MLB streams or MLB.tv with a VPN will do you good.

Also, Root sports just started in market steaming so if you have a friend with a Directv log in you can watch the Stros

You are a dumbass. It's not the Astros that have forced him to get a provider without root sports and this is a national rule that affects every franchise in the MLB.

The blackout rules for many MLB teams are completely ridiculous. Anywhere around Memphis is in the blackout area for the Cardinals AND the Braves

It used to be especially asinine bc the Memphis area would only get braves regional games so if you were a Cardinals fan you were very much SOL (this was in the time before Internet streams)

Thankfully they have it fixed now where we get the regional broadcasts of the Cardinals and Braves but it's still in the blackout area for two teams that are 5 hours away

This pisses me off too! Makes zero sense. Never seen a sport try so hard to be unpopular

I agree that it can be EXTREMELY frustrating when you live w/n network. I live in the astros area but since I have comcast I can only watch on my actual TV. I cant stream. With that said its not like NFL has a fantastic set up. 3 day games on sunday and then 3 games during the week which inevitably will end up being the Giants Cowboys Patriots and now the rams regardless of their record? If you are out of network then you have to buy the entire NFL sunday ticket which only JUST recently was available for streaming outside of DirecTV. If you are OON then you can buy single team streaming with MLB.

I live in New Orleans, and that is exactly what I do. Every time. It's retarded how all Astros games are blacked out, but oh well I guess.

Are Astro games being blacked out because their tv deal is so shitty or what? I'd assume they will get a massive deal once this one runs out.

Stro blackout rules are the same as Rangers, FSSW just has a larger reach than RootSW

I used to live in a state with 5-6 teams blacked out. Ridiculous.

Why would you drive for five hours to see a baseball game anyway?

I hate when the yankees play the astros because it gets blacked out. I had to listen to the game last night on the radio through my at bat app. Im gonna try the reddit thing tonight.

I've never understood the blackout restrictions either. If I lived a block away from the ballpark, I could understand it, but I don't. I would gladly pay for an MLB.TV subscription but the Rangers games are blacked out thus resulting in me having to watch it from a shitty bootleg stream on reddit. MLB is essentially fricking themselves with their restrictions.
