It's college football...wow, funny thing, you would hope someone would actually root for the school they attend and a place that will probably have a big influence on you the rest of your life.. friends, jobs etc

i would view that person as a total pos
Are you serious with this shite? Because someone attends one school but it is a fan of another school more than the one they attend they are a POS? You went total retard.

He was referencing the UGA fan (who said the LSU fan had it coming when he spit on in Athens).

I don't think you're a POS for attending UGA but what were you expecting wearing Purple and Gold. I would imagine most opposing fans get harassed at SEC schools. Although, the few times I've been to games at Vandy the fans were non-existent.

Morgantown can be pretty scary. Not the stadium, but the after party. I went for a VT-WVU game and after the game, someone pushed a car down the side of a hill. It came pretty close to hitting us, but I don't think it was intentional, it was just drunk people pushing an old jalopy down a hill because it was funny. The couch burning thing is real, too.

Starkville can be strangely violent after a game. Or it was 20 years ago. I've never been back. I never saw more fights after a game than there, and I was distinctly uncomfortable wearing LSU colors, though no one bothered us.

I've been to games in the Vet wearing the opposing team's jersey without incident. There were catcalls and heckling, but nothing threatening. It was actually fun.

Most stories are just that... stories. Any person who finds trouble in an opposing stadium was usually looking for it themselves. the only time I personally thought I was in danger at an opposing stadium was actually when I first moved to Dallas and went to the Ballpark at Arlington. The Orioles lost, of course, and I was making the long walk back to my car by myself after the game. A truck full of rednecks pulled up beside me and started yelling at me because of my Orioles shirt, and they seemed itching for a fight. I just looked up and told them "I'm an Orioles fan. What more can you do to me?" They shrugged, laughed, threw me a beer, and drove off.

Of course I was wearing purple and gold.

You don't cheer for YOUR school?

I don't know that they're a "POS", but it's definitely odd, and possibly douchey.

Cheer for where you go to school, especially if you're an undergrad. I couldn't understand not doing so.

Without a doubt. College football is primarily an extremely middle class fanbase whereas the NFL is much more bluecollar. I go to tons of away games in college football and have never even had the slightest problem.

I've only been to three away Saints games, and they were all just against Carolina when they sucked. None of their fans give a damn enough to boo their own team let alone fight one of us.

Wasn't expecting a welcoming red carpet rolled out for me, but certainly wasn't expecting to get spit on either. At least have the balls to throw a punch. Spitting is reserved for the trashiest of people.

Pretty much. If you CHOOSE to go to undergrad that is a rival of "the team you've pulled for all your life" (what, 10-15 years). You made your choice. If you're not going to back where you go to school, it strikes me as a really shitty college experience.

I cheer for UGA when they're not playing LSU. I love Athens and am extremely satisfied with the education I got there. But I was supposed to stop cheering for my favorite team from my childhood just because I take classes somewhere else? That may make sense to some but it doesn't to me.

And UGA and LSU aren't rivals. Its really not as big of a conflict as you think. On average in football they play maybe once every two years, basketball no one really cares about right now at UGA, and baseball they don't play once a year anymore.

I guess I see an undergrad college experience as more than just "where I took classes." It seems like it would have sucked if that's the only way I saw it.

I graduated from Alabama, but I also took classes at Alabama State and Troy. I don't give a shite about either ASU or Troy.

That's a bit different than going to one SEC school and cheering for another.

I don't disagree with you. See the rest of the post you quoted and all my other posts. I went to plenty of non-LSU/UGA games and still do. Went to UGA/Liberty baseball just a couple of weeks ago.

Cheering for LSU did not diminish my college experience at all.

Not really. LSU and UGA aren't rivals. I don't see why I would have a problem if I went to Kentucky or Florida and continued to pull for Alabama.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't fathom being an undergrad and pulling against my school (which is what the guy was initially speaking of here). It just seems sort of against the most basic principles of what constitutes college sports.

To each his own, I guess.
