And he was a better hitter than pitcher, wasn't he?

Saw the preview this morning on SC. Looks like a good story.

He went 4-4 against our all star teams best pitcher. 3 homers. Plaquemine all stars vs Gonzales. He pitched 1 inning. I hit a ball over third base coach then struck out. The coach came and told me I was the closest to putting him in play. Lol. I told him screw u because I struck out. I was 12 he was 13 I think. They won Dixie youth World Series either that year or year before.

He was a semi-legend growing up. What ever happened to him?

I think he got a prison sentence for rape, if I'm not mistaken.

I just read that linked article by Gammons in there. Man that dude sounded like an animal, reminds me of Steve Nebraska from the Scout

I think it was about 3 counts of under age rape.

Sounds like it.

I'm sure there was a lot of talent, but I'm not so sure he was a sure fire major leaguer.

This. Most kids who dominated sports at that age fizzled out hard. Either before finishing high school or before making it to any real professional level.

Not sure many scouts had him on top their radar. Then after a year in prison still there. Then after 2 more still there. I doubt anyone could say that. He was as sure fire as anyone.

Gonzales never won the Dixie Youth World Series. Only been to the World Series once and that was team Jason Williams played on.

I'll bet against that. My cousin was on a team that won. Any amount u want. Pretty sure 97 junior Dixie 11 or 12.

Never won the World Series. Jason Williams crew came close. Toe was real deal until he raped 41 year old he was living with. He was 19!
