If your favorite team failed to reach the postseason -- sorry again, Seattle fans -- choosing whom to cheer for can be challenging. Especially given that nine of the possible postseason teams haven't won the World Series in droughts ranging from 22 to 107 years -- an average of 38 years apiece.

Who woulda thunk it? Those "beloved" Cubbies have the highest rootability quotient.

Sucks they are really good now, about to start seeing a lot of dorks wearing the equivalent of Theriot cubs tshirt-jerseys over the next few years.

Yea. People should only root for front running winners. No one ever has a problem with that.

That line of thinking is weird. It sucks that they're good because some of some of the fans. Would you prefer they suck so fewer people will enjoy them?

I think that he's expressing his distaste for the bandwagoners.

So then he should like the cubs. They've shown up home and away for decades, for better or worse...almost always worse.

That and the sense of superiority the fans have because it's the "cool" yuppy team that is a cultural icon.

It's cool to root for a team that sucks? Okay.

So is that a bad thing that the team is iconic or that people enjoy being fans of the Cubs, or that the fans love going to wrigley?

I'm confused.

The Cubs have one of the most inelastic demands of any team. It is awesome that the fans will always support them, but it could mean that bad ownership could allow them to be shite and not suffer many consequences. Luckily, I think the Ricketts are very good owners and obviously want to win.

People always change the script to suit their tastes. The cubs fans are terrible because they support a terrible product...or they're a bunch of bandwagon fans. They're mutually exclusive, but people will use whichever applies at the time.

I'm sure that most Cubs fans really love the team and are loyal fans. However, a large segment of Cubs fans are only Cubs fans because they think it's the cool thing to do, and they want to be seen. That last sentence is my opinion based on observation.
