I can give you a clear one--remember the old BCS SOS formula? Two times your opponents' combined record plus one time your opponents' opponents' combined record, divided by 3.

By that metric, Alabama has the #1 SOS. Now, whether they've played the toughest schedule to date is debatable, but what is certain is that they have the best record in the country vs. one of the toughest schedules in the country.

So, other than that, Alabama's resume is pretty much blah.

Bama is #1 in 77 of the 100 rating systems given there. Clearly their resume is impressive enough to get the #1 ranking in the eyes and computers of most. Is there something you know that they don't?

What I know is that SOS is calculated based on the record of every opponent. Therefore, If Bama played 10 games against teams who are top 40, while Michigan played 3 games against top 10 teams 5 against top 75 and 2 more against outside the top 100, Bamas would be rated as a higher SOS. Most would agree that Michigan would have won the harder games however.

So, if you spin it with bias.
