If the technology is possible I say yes. Eliminate umpire prejudices.

Aside from a giant bore? Sure. I've known it for almost 60 years.

What do you do when there's a play at the plate?

Same thing at the other bases.

I would stop watching if there was a computer program calling balls and strikes.

Any particular reason?

So you would stop... would a computer calling balls and strikes get anyone to start watching?

Okay then

Not really workable. Go look up the old Slate article on baseball's misleading camera angle. Basically, the placement of the TV camera changes the apparent location of a pitch. They used side by side clips of the same pitch, one from a normal, offset camera and the other from a dead center camera. There was a big difference.

I prefer the human error. It changes the way many pitchers attack the zone, depending on who is behind the plate at times.

If you set an exact strike zone it would make the pitchers' job much more difficult.

Ok so your opinion is about as valid as one I would have about soccer.

The best answer could probably be using replay on out pitches if they can figure out how to show exactly where the ball is in correlation to the strike zone, like in tennis with the out line, and give coaches a limited number of challenges a game. I've been wanting something like this to happen for a long time.

I think some people kind of like the human element to remain in officiating.

I don't know how this would happen here, but things like replay have let to unintended consequences like how we see imperfections in plays such as catches at microspeeds that should never be overturned. But, the other side of it will argue that if we have the technology, we can't ignore those things.

Electronic line calling has eliminated almost all BS in tennis.

Yeah, replay in baseball has kind of backfired. A lot of calls have been made on like the split second that someone comes off a base after a slide. That's bullshite and isn't how it should be used at all.

I would be ok getting rid of replay in all the major sports.

Speaking of, the Rangers are probably about to get a runner called out because he stole a base and his body came off the bag for a split second while the tag was held.

ETA: He was shockingly called safe lol.

I think a lot of people are turned off by replay by how nonsensical those rules and procedures are in the NFL.

I am all for it. No more "wide strike zone" or "small strike zone".

I wish Little League would try it out for a World Series one year.
