I didn't see it until this AM on College Football Final. It really seemed to me like the punt returner DID NOT signal a fair catch. Rather, he was blocking the sun with his arm so he could see the ball. Anyone?

You still can't lay the guy out until the ball arrives. He left his feet, led with his head and hit the returner in the head. He then acted like a douche and taunted as the guy was knocked out.

It doesn't matter if he was signaling a fair catch or not.

Whether he called fair catch or not is irrelevant. He's still entitiled to the opportunity to catch the ball

Ah, he hit him before the ball got there. I thought it was simultaneous.

Even if it was simultaneous, the guy put his head down and speared him in the chest with the crown of his helmet maliciously.

It's a bitch move any way you put it.

I watched it in live action and I thought he was calling for a fair catch.
Then, in the replay I could see he might have been blocking the sun. I was expecting a 15 yard penalty but no ejection.

Historically, how many times do you see a punt returner blocking the sun with his hand? Done all the time in baseball but I would think PRs are taught not to do that as it will be interpreted as a fair catch.

Doesn't matter. The dude did not give the reciever a chance to catch the ball, Plus it was a thug hit anyway.

The right arm was blocking the sun (which, I do believe, would constitute a fair catch signal anyway because of lifting his arm, despite that not being the intent). The left arm then waves as he starts to run to get to the ball.

But, as said, it doesn't really matter in this case. PR is looking up for the ball and is blasted. Every other arky player around slowed down so they wouldn't hit him, except for the one.

I thought he was signaling for a fair catch with his left hand, but that still doesn't give the Arky player carte blanche to kill shot the guy.

Now in this case I support the refs decision.
