Anyway, he and I were both at work that day. So, what happens? One total prick of a guy took a huge cardboard box and wrote "3" in huge Sharpie. He then yelled, "Hey, Erik!"......then proceeded to run while pushing the cardboard box #3 across the factory floor as fast as he could and completely caved it to a stack of pallets.

What an a-hole.

He's the type of guy that needs to have his arse kicked.

I was 19, taking a sabbatical from school and delivering pizzas on that Sunday afternoon. I remember watching the race before I went into work and seeing the wreck, I didn't think much of it. I was an Earnhardt fan and figured he'd just brush it off and race at Rockingham the next week.

I was listening to the country station out of Macon, GA in my truck while I was delivering and the DJ came over the air and said."This is the hardest news I've ever had to deliver on the radio, Dale Earnhardt has died."

I was in shock. I literally spent the rest of the day walking around in a daze. The Last American Cowboy was gone

Day before my 19th birthday. I was at my Grandmother's house with my parents casually watching the race. My uncle and I saw the wreck and thought nothing of it beyond it being great finish. Then it went down hill and everyone stopped what they were doing and watched in shock.

I was at the box near coons corner during the race and listening to my Walkman. I don't remember if I was listening to the race in particular, but I knew who won, and that jr. and Dale were running top 3 with Waltrip heading into the last turn. I went back to my apartment in Tiger Plaza and only then learned on espn, the breaking news that he had died.

I was watching the race on TV. The crash didn't seem like it would be bad enough to kill a driver when I was watching it live. I figured Dale was going jump out and be pissed off walking across the track. However after a minute, I started getting worried. It still seemed like it couldn't be true. I was really upset about it that we lost such a legend in Nascar. It's a shame they didn't invent the HANS device before that race or he would have survived that crash.

i've never been a huge NASCAR fan, and wasn't to versed in the sport at the time, so while I knew the name, it didn't really hit me as a huge deal... i mean, a guy died doing the sport he loved, and that was sad, but i really had no idea that he was that successful and popular until they continued to make a huge deal about it, then i realized he was a huge star in that sport

I love Dale Sr. But his death was entirely his own fault.

Watching the race at home. Didn't think the accident looked all that bad.

Working the grill at McDonalds on Rushing in Denham. We had the race on the radio back there.

One of those moments I don't think I'll ever forget.

Watched it from start to finish at a crawfish boil. Wreck looked like a normal crash. Didn't think for a secon that it instantly killed him. After seeing Schrader waving for help, i knew it wasnt good. It's a shame the hell that Sterling Marlin took from the fans. Blaming him for Sr death.

Driving home from the Plano Center after attending TicketStock with my dad. I was never a big nascar fan, but everyone knew who Dale Earnhardt was and it was a shock.

Was watching it with my dad, had just turned 7. Really the first NASCAR race that I remember(just bits and pieces of it, remember them showing the ambulance driving slowly to Halifax Medical Center).

I highly recommend everyone watch “The Day” , a special that the Speed Channel did on it, very in-depth.

YouTube

Shows Earnhardt arriving at the hospital with them doing chest compressions(you see just a glimpse of him), Jr and Teresa arriving at the hospital etc. Also has several interviews with drivers and people who were there.

I never want to know what Ken Schrader saw when he looked into that car.

The downvotes will fly for you but you aren’t wrong. He was incapable of accepting new safety devices.
