I think if you have unlimited funds you can stay "alive" for as long as you want. When I say alive I mean in the fashion of Gleason and Hawking

Hawking is an outlier and it's because of biology, not money. Unlike most victims, he got it young (that slows the process for some reason) and his vital organ neurons (brain, heart, lungs) were spared.

This is true as well. I learned this in neuro anatomy

Typically if als manifests at an early age you can live longer

I would say it is a little of both correct? It has to cost a small fortune for his care. I wouldn't want to live one second like him or Gleason though. They are better men than me and still found ways to make an impact on the world

Had no idea you could get als so late in life

That sucks but at least he's lived a great life until what - 65 years or so?

The later you are diagnosed life expectancy can be shorter.

I suppose that it can affect mature organs at s more severe rate sinc cthey can't mature any longer especially the brain

That's terrible! One of the all-time grests. It was fun watching him and Benito Santiago on the same team in their primes.

I doubt the NFL/CFB as we now know them will be around when my kids are my age

At some point watching people liquefy their brains will cease to be entertainment for most people
