Or do you think that this was his way of sitting out the bowl game without garnering any negative press for it? A mysterious hamstring injury an hour before kickoff just seems a little shady

I do. I assume based on what has been said he's been practicing with the team. This game has the feel of the old New Year's Day bowls so I think he'd play if he could.

meh, that's more egregious and selfish to me than letting your teammates and coaches know that you don't plan to play a month in advance

I would be lying if I said that it wasn't my first reaction to seeing he was out. He seemed to really make a point of rubbing his thigh and wincing throughout warmup.

I wouldn't have doubted it until they showed him hiding in the coaches box. There's something weird about that.

Joe Montana had hypothermia in the 79 Cotton Bowl against Houston, his last game at Notre Dame. Body temperature was 96°. Chicken soup, a blanket, and sitting out 10 minutes of the third quarter was all he needed to erase a 20 point deficit and beat Houston.

But that's why he's the king, and you're a schmuck.

Having a cold and a tweaked hammy isn't quite the same thing
