It's cool how Dean Smith used his money and dying wish to pay for the gluttony of former players, some of which are filthy rich. Basically promoting obesity and diabetes in America. That's so nice of him.
Kinda reminds me of how Valvano used his resources and dying days to set up an organization that raised hundreds of millions of dollars to fight cancer.
Oh wait

Does anyone kinda see this as an posthumous "f you" to the NCAA? a coach paying his players ? A coach treating his players to a nice meal?

Yes. NCAA should strip UNC of all wins under dean smith

So Dean Smith never gave any money to charity? Is that what you're saying? Are you saying $200 is too much to give for a lifelong connection that Dean Smith had to these players? I dont think the money is what mattered here to Dean Smith when making this request. I'm sure he had tons of other things he gave/left to family, friends, and probably charity as well.

Tbh, my actual thoughts are this is a really sweet gesture. But I'm also confused because I thought he couldn't remember anything because he had Alzheimer's. But I'm not sure if the timeline of when that started and how long he lived with it before dying. So maybe he set this up a long time ago.

Onion Sports needs to do an article on that.
Good on dean. I would never cash that check.

It's obviously symbolic.

By helping open up the ACC to black players, Dean Smith contributed untold millions to black players.

I couldn't tell because I remember many people saying the same thing about Kevin Durant when he donated to tornado victims. People were saying he didn't donate enough.

That's awesome
I wouldn't cash it but if I did I'd give it to a charity or someone less fortunate
