Ever met AL Caldwell or Dan Gresham in the flesh?

Damn that Oakland series. Since we traded for Verlander... we've swept the Mets, swept the Mariners, took 2/3 against the Angels, swept the Mariners again and have taken at least 2/3 against the White Sox. 13-1 record. But then there's the 4 straight losses to last place Oakland in the middle of all that.
Cleveland's fluke arse luck made its way on to our schedule.

I've listened to Al Caldwell on KLVI, but never met him.
I have met Craig Way (UT PBP) and Dave South (A&M PBP).
Talking about KLVI, what a blowtorch. You can listen to KLVI in Baton Rouge driving on I-10 during the daytime, despite the tower being 180 miles away.

I started listening to games on the radio in 86. My family only had 3 tv channels back then, so I didn't have much choice. A good year to start following the good guys indeed.

To get an idea of how powerful KLVI is, here is WIBR's coverage map:

Hell the games weren't available to watch anyway. We didn't live close enough to Houston to get Channel 39 then. I only got to watch if we got on the game of the week now and then.

What is your Obsession with radio coverage?
I grew up listening to the games on the radio. WIBR 1300AM during the day, KLVI 560AM at night.
In a way, I am kinda sad that today's kids wont get to experience what it was like to follow games almost exclusively on the radio. The Astros were on WJBO in BR for a while before WIBR picked them up. I started listening as a kid at about age 11 in 1981ish. Gene Elston was the guy who kept me entertained many evenings during my early years. While some kids liked to hide and get lost in a book, I liked to listen to ball games. It totally stimulated my imagination. The way he described the Astrodome made me want to experience it for myself, and I finally got to in around 1984. Then Milo took over in 1986, and "good Milo" was a gem to listen to. Unfortunately Milo stayed around probably about 10 years too long, but that is a different thread for a different day.

I always tried to get Channel 20 or 51 out of Houston but yeah, that was just too far. Picked up KPLC Channel 7 Lake Charles but even that was rare.
WVLA Channel 33 would air the Astros Friday night home games in the late 80s/early 90s.
CBS aired a handful of Astros' Saturday afternoon games.
ESPN also aired a handful of 'Stros games during the week. The Astros were hardly ever good enough to get Sunday Night Baseball love.
TBS and WGN would air Stros games when they played the Braves/Cubs.
I would buy a Kodak (or Polaroid) VHS tape from Winn Dixie and tape all the Stros games that aired on TV.
It wasn't until 1997 that TCI Cable (Denham Springs/Walker) picked up Fox Sports Southwest and I got to watch the Stros on a nightly basis.
Before that, it was pretty much Astros Radio Network or nothing. So lucky to be able to watch all the games today, but I still listen to the games on my way home from work or when I have to run to HEB during the game.

I lost all Respect for milo when he became a crotchety old a-hole who could do no wrong. I met him and art Howe once when I was a kid at a baseball. Card show and he was an a-hole. Art Howe was cool.

Oh. Are the Indians winning again?
Posted on 9/21/17 at 4:34 pm to Lsuhoohoo
2 misplayed balls called hits, then Lindor swings easy and hits one 20 ft over the 400 ft CF wall
I think that's his 32nd
I'm not buying it

Lindor and Jose Ramirez are really fricking good. They still don't have the top to bottom depth we have in our lineup and their starters outside of Kluber are nothing to write home about.

Every one of them is pitching like Kluber during this stretch. It's ridiculous. We just need a stretch of like 2 or 3 games where a starter is off or the offense can't score or their bullpen blows a lead. But nope. To be an Indian is to be a baseball God at this point.

If it continues all the way to the ALCS there is nothing we can do. And it would be the most ridiculous stretch of baseball in MLB history. I am betting that it won't. They are still really good when they're their normal selves obviously
