@Buster_ESPN: As @jaysonst and I keep hearing: Yankees and Padres keep hammering away at a possible Craig Kimbrel deal.

They've been rumored to be close to a lot of deals so far and haven't done shite except trade for Dustin Ackley. They have a pretty thin system overall so I think they're hesitant to bust it up

Yeah, they won't trade Severino or Judge (their LMJ and Maverick) so I'm not sure if they can get anything done

The Yankees system has been rated 12-16 depending on which site you use. Higher than some of the teams that has made multiple deals.
Yankees also have a lot of young arms in the bullpen at the major league level that are performing.
While the orginzation does lack a lot of star power they have some depth in second tier prospects. Kids who are not projected to be stars but contributors in some capacity.

If that is all it would take, that would be a great deal for the Astros.

Wonder if there's a chance Fiers is flipped as part of this

The roster crunch would get real interesting with a trade with the Padres. We already have to make room for Gomez and Fiers

Apparently looking at more than just Kimbrel
quote:

The Astros are “pushing hard” to find an upgrade in the bullpen and have several irons in the fire, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Given the players under consideration, it looks like Houston is aiming high. We just heard of talks with the Padres that may include Craig Kimbrel, and Bowden says they’ve also discussed Joaquin Benoit. As Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle tweeted earlier, the Rays have spoken with the Astros about pen arms, though he adds nothing seems likely there, and Bowden lists Brad Boxberger and Jake McGee as names that have come up. And Houston has even made inquiries on outstanding Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, he adds.

Outside of Hamels and Gomez, "that's all it took?" seems to be the ongoing tone of this trade season. To me it has, anyway
