no curses. When you play terribly you lose. Cubs played terribly. Mets played great...and something something daniel murphy.

I enjoyed watching the Cubs this postseason, especially the gorilla ball. I don't follow closely, but I thought I have heard analysts say they were ahead of 'schedule' because of their youth and stocked farm system.

That's the narrative for getting to the post season. In that sense they were ahead of schedule. I don't really care for that narrative once you're in the post season because it's pretty much a roll of the dice at that point.

But yes, the team is incredibly young, and only now starting to flex financial muscle.

They are stacked in the lineup. They have a Cy Young candidate #1 starter and a legit #2 that would be a #1 most anywhere else. They have financial flexibility.

What do they do to bolster that rotation? Sign all the Greinkes?

The future on the North Side is as bright as could possibly be....

As shitty as this series was, just think about the experience it gives this team....The high of winning a series against your rival, and how quickly you can be exited...

Tons of youth, tons of money, tons of talent.........I'ts going to be a fun ride!

I hope we make a serious run at him and price. Could see the spending getting crazy and bowing out and going for zimmerman and kennedy too. Would also like to see them make a play for heyward, but I think he'll command too much money for a team like he cubs (with plenty of bats already) to take that risk.

I've been so invested in this current season that I really don't know what free agents are out there other than the big name pitchers and Heyward.

Jason Heyward will get a monster deal. I think he would be perfect for Chicago, but probably not in CF. Therein lies the problem.

Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler have some work to do on defense.

I think they make a strong run at Price....The Maddon/Price connection is already there

Heyward will more than likely demand way more than we need to spend...

Arrieta hasnt done anything remotely close to this before this season, it is a sign of things to come, or was this a flash in the pan season for him? not a flame at all, i just want to know what Cubs fans thoughts are about it.

That thought has crossed my mind, but you don't dominate like he has this year and then just completely lose it (provided he stays healthy). He figured something out. Will he ever be this dominant again? Probably not. This was an insane year.
But I think he'll be our #1/#2 guy for the next few years.

By the way, congrats. If y'all play like this in the World Series, y'all may just get another sweep.

Thats kinda what i was thinking as well. He will be a good pitcher for yall for the next few years at least, but it will be really hard to duplicate what he did this season. He put up some dominate numbers

He was pretty fricking dominate 2nd half of last season. I'm sure there's some regression there but i think he's done it long enough now for me to comfortably say he deserves to get paid and be trusted.

but as i Mets fan i am programmed to expect the worst, so i expect it to fall apart in the World Series. i predicted Cubs in 6 and Dodgers in 5 though so who knows

Didn't Heyward play RF with the Cardinals, only to switch to CF when players like Piscotty were inserted into the game?

I'm sure there's a metric out there that could either prove this right or wrong, but just based off of everything said about fowler's CF defense and then seeing it in play at wrigley i think he'd be fine. Round about way of saying i think it's easier to play CF at wrigley than a lot of places.

I see the cubs having between 25 and 40 million to play with this offseason. Based on the obvious pitching needs i think you address that first, but if there's enough left, i'd like to see them at least drive the price up in case the cards re-sign him. And if we go the cheapish route on pitching, i think i'd be ok with that too (#trustbosio), just so long as we don't stand pat at the trade deadline.

Which brings up another point, you've got to think that again baez/castro are on the trading block. Hopefully castro did enough to recoup decent value.

Castro recouped some value for sure. If the Cubs go the cheap route on pitching, does that really leave them in a better situation than they are now with Hendricks and Hammel?

The Cubs are likely going to get that third big time arm in the winter and not do much worth of trading unless they can trade a young infielder for a young pitcher. Sort of like the Castro/de Grom swap we heard so much about this summer.

Maybe not that exact swap, but something similar.

I'm pretty confident Fowler will decline the Cubs QO. Which is a win/win for us. We either get him on a decent deal or get a 1st rd if he signs elsewhere.

Next year will be completely different at the deadline. We'll know to acquire someone for the playoffs, rather than just cheap route for Dan Haren, Austin Jackson, etc.

I don't want to lump hendricks in with hammel. Hammel turned into a pumpkin the 2nd half of this year. he can't be trusted.

And just like the revolving door that was sign and flip, you can find some gems...just don't have to flip them now.

Also cheapish is not cheap. It just means missing out on the top 3. Still plenty of good arms available.

I'm talking the mike leaks and yovani gallardo's of the world

Arrieta was a stud in 2014, and he was on verge of improving for 2015. His peripherals were phenomenal in 2014. I had no doubt Jake would be a top 20 starter and Cy Young candidate was a realistic, but high level outcome.
